Sugar Beach Resort #PH-40 is a penthouse suite towered on the sixth floor and located on the front row, southern-end location of the complex. From the oversized balcony, you are just a stones-throw away from the water. This panoramic, 180 degree ocean view is perfect for outdoor dinning, watching sunsets, or observing the whales in season! Sugar Beach Resort #PH-40 is a 2 bedroom 2 bath condo that can sleep up to six guests. The unit has a full kitchen, washer-dryer, central AC, and an oceanfront balcony. There are king beds in the master and guest bedrooms, and a queen sofa bed in the living room. Unit has a 65-inch Smart TV, stereo system, and complimentary Wi-Fi. Long distance calling to the US Mainland and Canada is included. The unit also comes equipped with basic beach equipment you will need to explore any of Maui's pristine beaches. A $200 refundable security deposit is required for this unit. Sleeps 6.
This condo fronts a long white sand beach called Sugar Beach which is perfect for long walks, sunsets and fun in the sun.
Same day bookings and those arriving within 48 hours of making the reservation requires a phone call to Rentals Maui for confirmation.
Bookings made within 7 days of arrival will require an ID check and screening prior to confirmation.

Great location but could use a refresh

Great location with a wonderful view but not well maintained. The carpet needs to be replaced, several doors have chips in them, the carpeting on the lanai has a good size burn hole and the living room chairs need to be repaired or better updated. The coolers were dirty and the large one was covered in sand on the outside. Not a good value for the money. We have stayed at other units in the complex, that were better maintained and much nicer.

Amazing view and location; incredibly long lanai

Penthouse 40 is right on Sugar Beach with an unbelievable view! Swimming in the ocean was easy; the pool and jacuzzi were also nice. The nearby Farmer's Market is a short walk; you can see turtles by the rocks there. A little past Wailea is wonderful snorkeling. The interior of the property was very spacious. The sofa bed in the living room was comfortable. It was like having another bedroom. You cannot beat the view, the location and the space inside of this place. I highly recommend it. The only caveat is the inside needs updating, which we ignored because of that breathtaking lanai, space and the location.

Best Seat for the Whale Show

Jean was wonderful to work with, and answered all questions and inquiries about the property, as well as providing maps from the airport to the unit and check-in instructions. Upon entering the unit, I was struck of course by the view, it is fabulous! The kitchen is well equipped for all types of meals, although a bit enclosed for more than one chef. We enjoyed the privacy of the two-wing configuration of the bedrooms, which were nicely furnished, each with their own private bath. The living and dining rooms are large and also nicely furnished. If you come during whale season, be sure to bring binoculars as these wonderful creatures created a beautiful show for us from our private balcony viewpoint! I should also note that the resort grounds are beautiful, the pool is perfect and offers sunning location either pool or beach side. My only critique would be a more thorough cleaning of air vents and mildew around the bathroom window. The kitchen appliances are on the older side, while functioning fine, they looked a little grimy. Regardless, I would happily come to this unit again.

At Home in Paradise

PH 40 at the Sugar Beach Resort was everything we'd hoped for. The unit was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped. What sets it far and above other accommodations is the incredible double lanai. This was our living area for the week - all of our "at home" meals were enjoyed here and it felt like we were sitting on the beach without the threat of sunburn. Sunsets were spectacular. Sugar Beach is a wonderful, uncrowded place to lounge and swim in the calm waters. The best shave ice on the island is just a walk down the beach and across South Kihei Road. It's also the most central location to all of the high points on the island. Jean provided excellent communication and helpful information for our stay. We would love to stay here again in the future; it was the perfect home away from home in paradise.

Our initial reaction to the unit was surprised it is dated. Carpet needs to go and a fresh paint and the place would be top notch. Communication and ease checking in and out was great! Would stay again. Thanks!!

So Beautiful, So Relaxing

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Penthouse 40! The view from the balcony was so amazing. The location can’t be beat!! Away from the noise and commotion of Kihei but an easy drive into Kihei. Couches and carpets were a bit worn. But comfortable beds. The management team was excellent. We were missing a few cooking utensils and called. They were delivered within an hour! AC worked great in both halves of the condo! Sugar Beach Resort - super clean. Great pool and hot tub. Barbecues were clean and well cared for. Can’t wait to return!

Nice Condo but Wrong Side of the Island

My rating is for the overall experience. I just spent two weeks in PH 40 and the condo is very nice with a wonderful view and plenty of room. The only negatives are that the carpet needs to be replaced with tile, and the sliding door to the lanai is extremely hard to open and close. Not sure why they call this property a resort. There is no bar or restaurant at the pool, no towel service, and no daily activities planned. Those are standard at most resorts. My main concern with staying here was that the beach/sand itself was great, but the water was extremely murky and brown. The extreme wind, the entire two weeks, was also a real problem in doing anything on the property or beach, after about noontime. We found ourselves going to the Lahaina side of the island everyday where the beaches are extremely clear and blue and not nearly as windy. Nice place to stay, but I will stay on the other side of the island next time I am in Maui.

Blown away!

We enjoyed our stay so much. The condo is very spacious for even a family of 5. My daughter was on the pull out and loved it. She found a comfy foam topper in the closet. The window coverings made it dark enough for her to sleep. Floor Fans were provided as well as towels, coolers, chairs, and some snorkel gear. Kitchen had everything we need. I appreciated the carpet after a day of sand. Comfy beds and king size pillows. Great outdoor furniture for lounging and eating. Air conditioning was spot on. Loved not having anyone to the side or above us. Perfect location for beach walking and combing in the tide pools to the right of building. Water clarity is not the best, but that is an excuse to explore other beaches. It is WINDY in the afternoons. I felt like I was staying at a family member’s condo
it was that cozy! Property was well maintained and clean. Manager called when gates were installed just to make sure we got the codes. Loved our trip due to this wonderful place. Thank you!

Slice of paradise

This place is perfect for a relaxing vacation for the whole family. It comes with everything you could need and the views are breath taking. If you have ever thought about Hawaii, come and stay here. It'll make you want to come back year after year.

We had a great time here, location and views are incredible. This unit has all the amenities you could possibly need to enjoy your stay. Family trip to create more amazing memories in Maui!

This was a family trip and our 4th time booking at sugar beach resort. We booked 3 separate rooms to accommodate us all. Our room was perfect for us, it was spacious, comfortable, had all the necessities and amazing views, it met all our needs. We love the location, grounds, amenities and have had all positive experiences with the hosts and the resort. We hope to return again soon.

Incredible location

This was my children’s first time seeing the ocean and the view from PH 40 was absolutely spectacular! The place was clean and comfortable, close to grocery stores, which was amazing. The pool, access to BBQs for grilling, the beach right outside the building made it easy to keep everyone happy. It was an incredible vacation and I would absolutely go back! The property manager, Jean was so great to deal with too.

Beautiful Views

This Property has beautiful views. Everything was clean and we had all the cooking items needed to prepare our meals. Also had all items needed for the beach, well stocked. We had a very comfortable stay, and will stay again at Sugar Beach. The only negitive thing is, this property could use an update. Still has carpet on the floors, could use new paint and the bathroom vents need attention.

Great place to stay and centrally located!

I’m a travel nurse and brought my family over after my contract ended. They absolutely loved it here and didn’t want to leave! The view is perfect from the huge lanai! It is the last condo on the top floor, so a little far to walk to the end, but very private which we liked. You can use a grocery shopping cart under the stairs to bring up your groceries and belongings, which helps tremendously! The condo was nice and clean and had everything we needed. Check the condo before you go shopping, because we bought stuff we didn’t need, like trash bags which we left for the next vacationers. They let us know before we arrived the air conditioning was being worked on. It was hot for a couple of hours, but it worked great the rest of the stay. Also, one of the beach chair arms broke when my 21 year old son went to sit in it on the beach. It looks like it was an older chair. Called the number left to report it, but couldn’t get through to talk to someone directly. We had an option to leave a message, but kept trying to call back, then eventually gave up and then forgot. I suppose we should have left a message. I would definitely stay here again!
