This hotel was a pleasant surprise after staying at a more expensive hotel in the heart of Shibuya. APA Gion is located in a prime location with many walkable historical landmarks, outdoor markets, and premium dining and shopping areas. The rooms look brand new and ours featured a king sized bed (rare in Japan), built-in desk, dining table and bench area. Yes, the bathrooms are small but they are very clean and convenient. Lots of toiletries are provided inside your room as well as a fridge, kettle, Starbucks Keurig type machine which they provided daily pods for as well as clean robes, and slippers. The staff was super friendly and spoke English, and offered pre and post checkin/checkout luggage hold. Would definitely stay here again!

After reading other reviews about this APA was a bit hesitant but decided to go with it for the proximity to many attractions. This hotel was perfect for our needs. Stayed 5 nights and enjoyed the stay. Clean, quiet, excellent location. Had a king bed - super spacious for Japan standards. Would definitely stay there again!

We reserved a non-smoking room for one night and arrived at night. We were given a smoking room. We realized this when woke extremely congested in the middle of the night. When we complained, we were met with indifference and no apology. Overall, the rooms are extremely small with minimal services and are nothing special. Bathroom entry is a tripping hazard and inside is tight with little space for toiletries. No space for anything more than a day or 2. Room was only clean on the surface,floors were dirty. Breakfast was better than room and the breakfast staff allowed us to start early so we could make our train.

Nonsmoking room use to be smoking rooms, very strong cigarette smell. Has difficulty breathing inside and can’t open any windows. A bit better if A/C in on high to mask the smell.

Fantastic location, walking distance to shrines, shopping district, Gion district and direct train routes to Osaka and Fushimi Inari. Very crowded area but the room was quiet. One of our rooms didn’t have any towels etc and the staff had a hard time understanding our request, carpet maybe hadn’t been vacuumed and there was a bit of a cigarette smell in the hallways but nothing terrible. Overall positive experience.

Excellent property to stay at for a very affordable price. Staff was kind and helpful when needed. Rooms were very nice, in comparison to some we have stayed in. There is so much to do just footsteps outside of the hotel. Highly recommend the hotel and location!

The property is well located for tourists with many shops and amenities that you will like. The property however is run down and isn’t in the best shape. The room I had stayed in smelled like someone had smoked in it and it was a very foul smell. There were stains on the walls and overall the room was not pleasant. The staff are very nice and welcoming and will ensure you have a great stay.

As soon as we entered in the non smoking room it smelled horrible. When they offered to add a humidifier because there were no more rooms.. after telling them to search again they found one.. with our four bags and the 5 staff members none offered to help with them. Could be better..

Hotel was comfortable and clean in a great location. The only thing is that the bathroom is very small, with barely any space to move around and space for storing your toileteries. Also staff could be a bit more accommodating considering we arrived at 2.20pm with a small baby and they made us wait until 3pm for check in in the reception area.
