How do you find low prices for your flights, lodging, and rental cars? Below you'll find tips that may help you keep costs down and understand why prices vary.
Buy roundtrip tickets. The least expensive fares often apply to roundtrip tickets.
Purchase early. Try to make your reservations and ticket purchases at least 21 days prior to departure. This advance-purchase period varies. Some fares require an advance purchase of 3, 7, 14, or 21 days, while others may require no advance purchase at all.
Spend a Saturday night at your destination. Many of the lower fares require a Saturday night stay.
Consider alternative airports. If you live within driving distance of two or more airports, be sure to check fares for all. Some airlines offer special fares for flights into specific airports.
Check fares on all airlines. Don't assume that an advertised special fare is available on only one airline. Most airlines quickly respond to a special fare introduced by a competitor, sometimes at an even better rate.
Select a charter flight. Charter flights are often less expensive than scheduled flights. Check out the Charter Flights page to verify when and where charters are flying.
Don't discard unused tickets. The majority of inexpensive fares are nonrefundable and nontransferable. However, if you don't use your ticket, don't throw it away. In some cases, you may apply the cost of the ticket (minus the airline penalty fee) toward the purchase of another ticket on the same airline. Your original ticket may have value for up to one year from the issue date.
Have your frequest flyer membership numbers on hand when you shop. You'll want to be sure to get credit for the points you earn. You always have the opportunity to provide frequest flyer numbers when you shop with Travelocity.ca
Include a Saturday night stay. Many hotels and airlines offer weekend discounts.
Depart on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. These days often reflect the lowest airline fares.
Select a charter flight. Charter flights are often less expensive than scheduled flights. Check out the charter schedule on the Flights page to verify when and where charters are flying.
Check for "shoulder" seasons. Crowds are fewer, and fares lower, when you travel during off-peak times. For example, take advantage of Europe in the winter or the Caribbean in late summer.
Read about the best times to travel on our top destination pages. Our travel experts share their knowledge and advice. For example, "Best deals near and in Orlando are usually found in September when prices are low and it's starting to cool off."
When you see a good deal, buy it! Inventory changes constantly for both air and hotel. A good deal might not be available later.
Book 60 days or more before you travel. Often times, the further out you plan, the better the package rate.
Travel just after a major holiday. Holiday travel is always in demand, and prices often drop as the demand does.
Be flexible. Check the days (or weeks, if possible) before and after your initial choice of travel dates. Sometimes a small adjustment in time can save you money.
Take advantage of rewards. The more you book with Travelocity, the more you will have in your rewards account, depending on your purchase.
Be willing to make a stop or connection on your flight. You can sometimes save money by considering flights that stop en route.
Book an Travelocity Rate hotel or vacation rental. These are special negotiated rates up to 70% lower than the average standard rates. You'll find Travelocity Rate accommodations in over 240 cities around the world.
For weekend trips, check the rates at business-oriented hotels. These hotels frequently offer weekend specials.
Read descriptions carefully. Some accommodations offer different options at similar prices. Details, such as breakfast included in the price, can make all the difference in the value you receive for your travel dollar.
Consider the season you're traveling. Resorts typically offer the same rates throughout the week, but those rates may vary by season. Off-peak rates, available when fewer travelers are visiting a particular city or region, can represent substantial savings.
Stay longer for the best rates Hotels will often offer greater discounts for longer stays.
Flexible Dates If the dates on which you are planning to travel are flexible, you may benefit from our Rate Calendar which will help you select a less expensive room depending on the dates you choose. The
Rate Calendar is located at the bottom of the room descriptions in "Room & Rates" tab of each hotel listed.
Rent Friday to Monday. Rental car companies may offer weekend discounts.
Have your frequent renter and frequent flyer membership numbers on hand when you shop. Rental car companies may offer express pickup service or flight mileage for their frequent renters. You always have the opportunity to provide frequent traveler numbers when you shop with Travelocity.ca.
Use your rental car coupons online. Travelocity.ca allows you to provide coupon and discount programme numbers, including benefit programmes provided by CAA.
When selecting a preferred rental car company, always choose "No Preference". You're more likely to find lower rental rates if you don't concentrate on a single company. Click Show more vendors at the bottom of the Search results page for even more choices.
