I was very impressed overall. The service was excellent and i was particularly happy with the service in the W lounge in both the daytime and evening. The staff are all super friendly and it was nice how the are very talkative and helpful, they was able to offer me a lot of advise on areas to explore in the City.
The Away spa is amazing and again the staff working there are always so happy to help. I did also enjoy the complimentary flavored water options. But this is a must, its super relaxing and peaceful. The facilities are also super clean, the staff working in the spa are on top of everything.
I ate at the MrPorter restaurant, it was amazing! Staff again was really helpful trying to find me the perfect steak and wine. The atmosphere is really cool and it attracts a very good crowd.
The hotel itself was fine. The lifts either didn’t work or took so long to reach any floor it become annoying. There was a awful smell in our room asked 3 times for someone to look at it and each time a new staff member was stood at reception who didn’t have any record of us asking to check the room so it never got sorted. Staff unfriendly seems annoyed when you went to reception to ask anything. For the money I paid it wasn’t worth it to be honest. Also the city tax isn’t included in your room charge so when you check out you get hit with €100 in tax.
I cannot express how hugely disappointed i am with this hotel. If i could give it a 0 rating, i would. After a long haul flight to Amsterdam to attend an event and a quick one night stay. I went to bed only to discover that the bed sheets were very dirty covered in body hair, skin and other unpleasantries . On the outset the bed looked newly made otherwise i would have alerted the hotel earlier at checkin. As it was very late and i had an early flight to catch the only thing the hotel could offer was change the sheets quickly and i was told by the manager it would be discussed and some sort of resolution/compensation would be communicated to me upon checkout. Because of this problem i was only able to sleep for 3 hours. At check out i was told i was awarded an additional 60 Marriott points and a complimentary taxi to the airport. Not only was i completely baffled by this and i am hugely insulted that the W Amsterdam thinks that this outcome is acceptable. The more i think about it, the angrier i am. I don’t even think i could buy a cup of coffee with 60 extra points. TBH I do not need the points nor am i looking for a freebie. I was hoping to stay at a nice clean hotel. Its the principal that they think 60 extra points and a taxi ride would be sufficient to make this situation acceptable. The hotel has not contacted me since. Not only have they lost a client, they have massively degraded their own brand. I will never stay at the W Amsterdam again.
