Famous inventor Thomas Edison moved to what was then known as Raritan Township, New Jersey, in 1876, and the area was never the same after that. The town's Christie Street was the first street in the world to have electric lights thanks to Mr. Edison, who dreamed up not only the light bulb but also many other inventions during his 10 years there. The town was renamed Edison in 1954, and it hosts several attractions dedicated to the great inventor. Book a stay in one of the top hotels in Edison, NJ and get an insight into his life and works.
Newark Liberty International Airport is the closest major airport to Edison; from there, you can take the Northeast Corridor train to your hotel. Alternatively, you can hail a taxi from outside the arrivals area at the terminal or pick up a rental car from Station P2 or P3 depending on the company you're using. After checking in at your choice of Edison, NJ hotels, head out and see some of the sights. Edison State Park was the location of Edison's laboratory and now houses a museum and memorial tower at the Thomas Edison Center at Menlo Park. Get some fresh air at Roosevelt Park, which has some great walking trails. If you don't already have wheels, Edison, NJ car rentals will let you explore the outlying areas. New York City is just 35 miles northeast, and the nation's first capital, Philadelphia, is 63 miles southwest. The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were both signed in Philly, and you can visit Independence Hall and the National Constitution Center while you're visiting. There's a lot more to see besides these attractions, so stay in a Philadelphia hotel if you need more time.
