Unfortunately, disappointed...

We decided to stay at this place because of the Pan Pacific name but we were a bit disappointed. The good bits - lovely decor, dark lighting to create aura and the people right at the entrance were friendly. There's a restaurant and a nice outdoor seating area where you can just chill out. However, the staff service at reception was odd - perhaps they're tired of foreigners, but they seemed cold and too busy chatting with their friends. They also made a mistake about the payment of the booking and were a bit brusque about their error. The design of the room was strange, the bathroom sink was in the entry and was also the 'kitchen' but it just felt weird. The room also wasn't very clean, there was a cashew on the ground when we got in. The air con was also inconsistent, it would get ridiculously hot in the middle of the night, then in the morning freezing cold. ...and finally, the internet was very slow, barely being able to load basic webpages. I know they said it was 20mbps on the site, but it just felt incredibly slower. I usually only like to give positive reviews but I just felt that this hotel pretended to be higher quality than it really was.

Wonderful breakfast buffet, with both Japanese and western options — highly appreciated the variety and freshness. Hotel staff are all friendly and helpful at all times. Room was very comfortable. AC seemed to not work last night, but otherwise fine. Shuttle to/from Kyoto station is a real plus.
