Located 5 miles west of La Farge, Wisconsin in the heart of the Kickapoo Valley is lodging by the day or week on a 300 acre beef ranch. At all times of the year there is a population ranging from 50-300 head of cows and calves. The bunkhouse is a renovated 100 year old two story farmhouse with 2 baths and 5 bedrooms. It sits atop a high ridge overlooking the Kickapoo Valley below. It's located only a few miles from the Kickapoo Valley Reserve and borders the Mississippi Valley Conservatory. It is not a luxury rental, rather a clean, old farmstead in a beautiful ranch surroundings. If you are looking for a reasonable place to stay while you enjoy the rural atmosphere, this could be the place for you! It is fully furnished and available for a small or large group.

Have a clean place to stay while you tap the resources of the area. Hunting, trout fishing, bicycling, snowmobiling, skiing, horseback riding, kayaking, outdoor activities are all available in the area. Simply bring your own food and beverages. Sit out in the backyard and enjoy the scenery while grilling out on outdoor grill or around an open campfire. Firewood will be provided. All linens, cooking utensils, kitchen and eating materials, stove, refrigerator, towels, housekeeping materials are provided. TV and DVD for movies and internet with free WiFi as of March 24th, 2017. A lot of peace and quiet. Fine restaurants, all denomination churches, hospitals are close.

We really enjoyed the property. It was perfect for time away from the hustle of our busy lives. However, the location pinned for directions is not the property. It's the host's home about a block down.We booked over a month and a half in advance of our stay. I remember checking the box saying we were bringing pets. We communicated about my dogs before booking, after booking and over several messages and phone calls. Upon arrival, she met our dogs. At no time was anything said about there being an issue with our booking.We were awoken on our last day at 8am by the host. We did not answer as we were startled awake. She came back at 9 as we were getting up and requested 20 cash for our two dogs. I refused cash and informed her that should only come through the app. She told me she didn't know how. A lack of knowledge on how to use the technology does not make an emergency on my end.When I reported it to VRBO this they said I don’t need to do anything and they’d talk to the host. Just now she sent me an additional bill for the money.

This is indeed an old farmhouse. Spacious interior, and with nice vistas. Right on a major thoroughfare, so traffic noise detracted a bit from the otherwise peaceful location. Hosts are nearby, helpful and friendly.

Was a wonderful experience! The place was spacious enough for the family and the home was clean and welcoming. There is a beautiful view of the sunrise in the mornings! The hosts were great with communication, and went above and beyond expectations to make sure we were having a great stay. The kids really enjoyed watching the cows in the pastures from afar. People working around the farm were very friendly and always waved when we were outside. Over all I was very pleased with our stay and will definitely be looking to stay again during my future WI trips.

Great location made better by a great hostess!!

The property was very clean!! Older farmhouse but well maintained. Just be aware, it had two complete bathrooms but only one shower.Great for our needs; fly fishing every day!!Loved that we had the entire property to ourselves.The hostess was always in communication and she met us at the house.No corporate owners here!! We loved that she greeted us and told us about the property.We will definitely stay here again.

Wonderfully relaxing and beautiful location. Comfortable accommodations. Janice was great—very welcoming. We enjoyed our “return to hometown visit” tremendously, including going to the bookstore in the old Tobacco Warehouse, Saturday farmers market, dinner at the Driftless Cafe and the lounge at the restored Fortney Hotel.

Girls trip

We had a great time at the bunkhouse. Mom and daughter trip, with some wedding dress shopping, and thrift store shopping. We got to see a calf be born at the farm, that was a highlight for my girls who grew up in town.

This house is just as advertised. A large farm house with plenty of space. We loved the relaxed setting, the quaint farm house and the cows too! The house had everything we needed. It was clean and felt like home. Janis, our host, was helpful and available.

Nice Old Farm House with a Friendly Host

As the listing said, this was a clean, no frills 2 story old farmhouse. The A/C is provided using 1 window unit on each floor, which along with the ceiling fans kept everyone comfortably cool. The upstairs unit was loud in the bedroom where it was placed, so that room wasn't used for sleeping. The water pressure in the shower was very low but did the trick, just plan on spending a bit more time in there! Hostess Janice was very friendly and responsive, and the notebook that tells the history of the house and the people who lived in and around it was a wonderful read for all you history buffs out there. Overall a good experience!

Driftless weekend

What a delight! Janis is a wonderful host, met us at the property and showed us all around. The location is ideal - minutes from the Kickapoo Reserve, and down the road from Viroqua. The house is a lovely old farmhouse with beautiful wood details, comfortable furniture, fully equipped kitchen, and beautiful views.
