I liked that there were a variety of pools. I didn't like that it was hard to find a quiet location in the sunshine - the music played by the house band was often loud and intrusive as was the "music" played on the beach (by non-hotel musicians).

Check-in was quick, almost too quick. Not enough things were explained clearly and I felt like I had to figure things out on my own. I stayed in room 2020 and it was noisy. Thankfully, I had my earplugs as the bar next door played loud music until the wee hours and kids screamed throughout the daytime. I was quite bummed that the swim-up bar was closed the entire time I was there. If you don't like a bunch of kids around, don't come here. I've never seen a more kid-friendly hotel. The main pool was full of kids nearly every day. Not a complaint, just what I experienced. Shockingly, I discovered the "peed upon mattress drying area" in plain view of the main pool restrooms. That was just gross. The buffet is fair, not great and got tiresome after several days. Don't believe that the buffet on the second floor is "the same" as on the main floor. Upstairs buffet is crammed in a few hundred square feet and can't possibly offer as many choices as downstairs. The staff was always friendly and helpful when needed. This hotel shows it's age in many ways but seems to be very popular with families. Location is good for going to town, or just walking around and exploring. As for me, it was about what I expected and I won't be returning. I'll be looking for a newer hotel with less kids. The old saying that "you get what you pay for" is very fitting for Hotel Playa Mazatlan. It's a decent place, especially for families with kids. The food is fair. Price is fair.

Beautiful location. Was once a grand resort. Property has gone downhill. The ability to take a shower was nonexistent. The food was better before it was all inclusive. I don’t drink but that’s good Because I could order cocktails and there wasn’t any liquor in them. The flipside is there are plenty of restaurants and bars close bar with good food and drink.

We liked the inclusive breakfast But not the complete inclusive Too many things to do that include eating away from the hotel
Many of the rooms have outside music from neighboring bars that interfere with sleep
