4/5 – Beautiful hotel, but not a 5-star experience for the 5-star price.
The Lafayette has great style, solid 24-hour food, and amazing overnight staff — one even walked us to the elevator, which was a rare and appreciated gesture. Please give the guy a raise as I’ve never had that at a hotel. But for what I paid (about $490 total with room, valet, food, and one drink), it fell short on value.
Valet isn’t 24/7, so we couldn’t get our luggage at check-in and had to track it down in the morning ourselves — despite already being charged for valet and the room. Food was tasty but not exactly what I ordered, and was left on the floor instead of on a cart. Espresso tonic in the café was great, but a little orange peel garnish would’ve made it special. Stirred a simple in-room drink, which was cool as I get to bartend in my room — just not $29 cool.
For that price, I could’ve stayed at the Madonna Inn (which has free parking) and gotten a more complete, iconic experience. Who cares if it’s downtown — that shouldn’t justify premium pricing without premium service.
Great hotel, but it needs better follow-through to match the cost.
I’d stay again because I liked the vibe and staff, but it’s pricey. I hope next time I get to enjoy the pool, bowling, bars, and other amenities. Hopefully they up their game so the experience matches the cost.
