Clean, comfortable and not at all romantic.

The listing on Hotels.com stated that our room would have a jetted tub and fireplace. It did have a fireplace however, it was not available for our stay despite the fact that we had a frost. The bathroom was so small that when sitting on the toilet, your knees were right up against the shower glass. I thought I was paying over $400 a night for luxury, we were very disappointed. We stayed in the Steward room and there were several signed photos of celebrities with that last name including Martha Stewart with Snoop Dog and one of the Star Trek characters. Not all at romantic and definitely not even close to being worth the price.

There were two small piles of beard clippings on the floor of the bedroom. There was a long cobweb hanging from the bathroom ceiling. The “cold” water faucet in the bathroom ran HOT unless you let the water run at least 3-5 minutes. Sometimes it was so hot you couldn’t hold your hand under the water! On the other hand, everyone was very friendly and the breakfast was excellent.

The breakfast location in the other building was beautiful and our meal was absolutely delicious. The presentation of the meal was beautiful as well.

Lovely setting

We loved so many aspects of this hotel: breakfast at Jessica’s, historical architecture of the buildings, helpfulness of the staff, etc. We stayed in a room with no comfortable chair, just a couple padded footstools. We almost needed a ladder to climb into the bed. The mattress was very firm. One day the towels weren’t picked up nor the room refreshed though we asked for this service. They did rectify this later in the day. Our room was on the second floor which was difficult for 2 older people without an elevator and hauling luggage up and down stairs. The gardens on the grounds are lovely.

By far the best thing about Swift is the restaurant Jessica’s. The food is gourmet and the wine list is memorable and reasonably priced.

I was not informed that we would be staying “off campus “, if you will. Would have appreciated knowing that. Walls very thin in our room and bath tiny. But—a very hefty price for cramped quarters and worn and shabby furnishings.
