Arlie`s Digs! - One Block To Willard Beach!

Ground-floor, updated, 2-bdr condo in an historic 150-yr-old bldg. in the heart of Willard Square- steps from Portland `s friendliest beach and famous Scratch Bakery. Ideal for couples and families (including the pup). Here, you are just minutes from the Portland Headlight / Ft. Williams Park, the bustling Old Port and Portland’s world-famous restaurant scene. Enjoy the outdoors? Hiking, skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling are a short drive away. Yes, Portland and Willard Square have it all!

Named for one of our pups, Arlie`s Digs is a two-bedroom one bathroom condo unit on the ground floor of a three-story 150-year-old house that was converted to condos a few years ago. Original pine floors throughout. The bedrooms - one King and one Queen - have new mattresses, ceiling fans, closets, storage, lamps, and charging stations. The Living Room has seating for six+ with a 55-inch Samsung `smart` TV. The sofa is comfortable but is not a `sleeper` sofa. Also, separate desk and chair in LR with dedicated electrical outlet. The bathroom has a large shower and a full-sized front-loading washer and dryer. The kitchen has a gas range, a moveable mini-island with butcher block top, bar seating for 2, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, pots and pans (incl lobster pot), cups, glasses, dishes, etc. The separate dining room has a round dining table and a bar with glasses appropriate for your favorite drinks. A/C is provided by window units. Off the kitchen is a nice deck with a table and chairs w/ an umbrella, and a large grassy back yard which is not fenced, but is removed from the street.

Our guests have access to all of Unit 1. The driveway in front of the building (off Preble St) is reserved for Unit 1. The driveway accommodates two cars one parked behind the other (tandem). The driveway on the back of the building off Day Street is for Units 2 & 3. The yard is shared with Units 2 & 3. The Weber gas grill is just off the deck outside our kitchen door and is shared with the other units. The deck itself is technically shared by all three Units, but since Units 2 & 3 have decks on the other side of the building, there is usually no overlap.

Welcome to Arlie’s Digs at Willard Beach. We are beyond excited to have you as our guest! This neighborhood is very special to us. We moved to Maine just a few years ago, and walked our dogs Arlie, Foster and Atticus every day to dog-friendly Willard Beach and throughout the charming and very walkable surrounding neighborhood. They couldn`t get enough of Willard Beach during the early morning and early evening off-leash hours.

South Portland is a perfect location from which to explore the beautiful Maine coast, the City of Portland and The Old Port, Cape Elizabeth, Knightville/South Portland and, really, all of Southern Maine. Your accommodations are just steps from the famous Scratch Bakery and also Willard Scoops (ice cream shop); and a three-minute walk to Willard Beach. A 10-minute walk brings you to wonderful dining at David`s 388, tasty BBQ at Elsmere BBQ, DiPietro`s Market, Rosemont Market, donuts and sweets at the Cookie Jar, Omi`s Coffee Shop, Terra Cotta Pasta Company, and Thai Taste.

Arlie’s Digs has dedicated two-car tandem parking right by the front door. Additionally, street parking is available on Preble Street. Note that street parking is restricted in the winter months for snow removal equipment. Please be mindful of the dates in effect.

It is a ten-minute drive to Portland`s Old Port and Ft. Williams Park (Portland Headlight). Don`t feel like driving? Uber and Lyft are available and South Portland does have city bus service - the schedule can be found at the city`s website.

Just off the entry hall is a door to the basement. The door is not locked, but there is nothing in the basement that a guest could use or would need. The stairs to the basement are steep and narrow and need to be avoided. Please stay out of the basement. Thanks!
HOUSE RULES
We kindly ask you to read our house rules carefully and keep them in mind during your stay.
1. No parties or events allowed.
2. No smoking allowed.
3. Dogs allowed, but we ask that you keep them off of furniture. We have provided a basket of towels by the back door to the deck for you to clean off their paws when they get a bit dirty at the beach or in the yard.
4. Arlie’s Digs is suitable for toddlers and children under 12. A pack and play is provided.
5. No more than 5 guests over the age of 5 are allowed.
6. No unregistered guests allowed.
7. Please respect our neighbors reduce noise after 9 pm.
8. Please turn off the AC when you leave Arlie’s Digs.
9. Please respect check-in and check-out times.
10. Please take care of the furnishings. You have to pay for damages that exceed the security deposit.
11. Please don’t rearrange the furniture.
12. Please clean your dishes.
13. Please take the trash and recycling before you leave. Just outside the back door and next to the deck is a green can for garbage and a blue can for recycling.
14. No illegal substances allowed on the premises.

This is a wonderful rental. The Location is excellent just a block away from Willard Beach . Also the house is conveniently across the street from Scratch Bakery. The accommodations are extremely comfortable and spacious. This is a large first story Unit 1 Our hosts thought of everything . The kitchen and bathroom were very comfortable. Our hosts are good communicators with getting back to us right away. We are very grateful to find this rental. We would stay here again easily. Big Thank you to our hosts.

Dig the Digs!

This property was absolutely lovely and exactly what we hoped for. The condo was much more spacious than we expected and everything that we desired was either provided or readily accessible. Additionally, the location was perfect! Early morning walks were to Spring Point Ledge Light and evening walks to Portland Headlight, with the time in between spent with family in Portland. I highly recommend Arlie’s Digs.

Great place!

We visited for a few days to decompress, explore the area, and take our new dog for his first getaway. The house was perfect for all 3 of us and we really enjoyed our stay! Everything was spotless and the area was great to walk our dog around. It is close to shops and the beach as well. Overall, it was an excellent stay and we had some great memories - hope to visit again soon!

Great location for exploring Portland Area

Cottage is well stocked and very convenient for getting around greater Portland, ME. Great bakery in the area which became a daily part of our routine. Host communicated quickly and were very accommodating.

Very spacious, sunny, spotless house

I have only good things to say about my stay. It was in December, so I can’t speak to the beach experience, but I had a great stay nevertheless. The hosts thought of everything- extra outlet extenders in every room, a huge TV with streaming channels, many thick towels, bathroom products, washer/dryer with detergent provided. King bedroom was very spacious with lots of sunlight. For winter guests, the living room and master bedroom have space heaters disguised as TV screens with an adjustable image of a fireplace. They add a lot of cozy ambiance, as well as nice extra heat. It is fantastic to have Scratch Bakery across the street with great coffee and baked goods. Steve and Ed were outstanding hosts, who answered my questions, and extended extra kindness to me. Highly recommend!

A lovely respite in a sometimes crazy world.

Steve & Ed's attention to detail makes their place exceptional. They have made sure every room in the condo is just right including lovely bath towels, linens, and a kitchen that has all the utensils for a good chef. And, to top it off the beach is just a short walk away. We are looking forward to coming back!

Loved it!

We absolutely loved this property! It was perfect in every way from the layout, to comfortable beds, to fireplaces and ease of wifi access and TVs. We loved the thoughtful binder of information and the dog bowl! It was decorated perfectly and was just so homey and felt like someplace we wanted to settle in and stay awhile. Additionally, we loved the bakery practically across the street and even took baked goods to go upon departure. Couldn’t have been happier with this property and you can see how much thought and heart went in to making this an exceptional place! Thank you!

A Little Gem

You have to love the tin ceilings, crown molding, and wide pine floors. The kitchen sink, cupboards, & wainscoting are probably the original. But the apartment is thoroughly modernized with new walls, light switches, ceiling fans, & easy to use thermostat. Loved the thick white bath sheets & of course, that the place was immaculate. The walk to the beach is an easy stroll as are the bakery & ice cream shop up the street. There isn't a thing we would change about the apartment. We'll stay here again for sure.

We really enjoyed this pup-friendly unit. All the creature comforts were included to make it feel like home - nice dishes and cookware, beach gear, lots of seating options in the unit and outdoor space to enjoy the end of summer. Short walk to the beach and food. Would definitely recommend!
