Country Inn & Suites Duluth was… fine. The lobby looked nice, the pool existed, and check-in was quick — though I think I must’ve angered the desk clerk somehow because we were blessed with the reject room. My husband, 17-year-old daughter, and I got a two-queen room, but the bed my husband and I chose had a divot so massive I’m pretty sure it’s a leftover mining pit from the Iron Range. Every time we finally managed to fall asleep, we rolled into each other like mismatched bowling balls. If you’ve ever wanted a forced cuddle simulator, this is the mattress for you. The rest of the hotel? Totally decent. But that bed? Hands down, worst night’s sleep of my life — which really set me up nicely for the four-hour drive home the next morning. Nothing like white-knuckling it down the highway in a zombie state because your bed was basically a trapdoor to spooning hell. Next time I’ll just book a campsite — at least the ground is flat.

The staff wasn't over attentive (lack of clean/dry towels in the pool area.) When towels were requested, it took several attempts requesting them before any were provided. When towels were brought in, they brought in about 8 towels, which were gone within minutes. For breakfast, the hot food for breakfast was replenished but the other self serve items were not (single serve type foods, cereals, hot cocoa packets, etc.) as well as the water and food in the lobby that is offered 24/7 was never refilled during our stay.

We loved everything about the place other than the water slide was out of service. That is the main reason we came here. Our 3 small grandchildren wanted to stay somewhere that had a slide. They were more disappointed than I was. I wish someone would have told us ahead of time. They said they called and left a message, but I only could understand the first couple of words of the message and didn’t hear anything about a broken water slide. They Had my E-mail could have contacted me that way. Very disappointed.

The property was getting a new roof so air compressors were running and debris were all over. The halls had not seen a vacuum in some time. The pool was closed in addition.

Room is dirty. Stains on the walls the floors....everywhere. The pool is so heavily chlorinated that your eyes burn upon walking into the pool area. Water slide was broke with no fix eta. We were never notified and they refused a refund or discount. If you have the choice of this place or one down the street...choose the one down the street. STAY AWAY!!!

Room was nice but we had many electric outlets non-functioning and the vent in the bathroom was spitting out black dust bunnies, seriously bad! 2 youngsters working the front desk ignored us to have it cleaned after I reported it. The 3rd employee felt bad and she reported the bad employees.. Housekeeping is only every 3 days and for 200 a night I don’t think that’s acceptable.. look for the best rate you can find! Even though we had some problems it’s a nice place But the price is way too high!!

Nice hotel, but slide wasn't working

The hotel was nice, but we definitely would not have spent the high amount we spent had we known the nice water slide was not operating. The hotel offered a 15% refund for this, but the main reason we chose this hotel over others was the huge and impressive water slide they had marketed. The other issue we ran into the loud and rattling AC unit in our first room. It was hard to sleep because of it so I recorded it, showed it to the worker at the front desk, and she was nice enough to another room. The non-working slide was a huge disappointment, but the staff was nice and the second room was good so I believe three stars seems fair.

We didn't stay. They were installing a new roof and it was noisy. The front desk said it only affected the third floor rooms....yet, it was very loud in the lobby. Also, the waterslide was broken. They called us about the slide but never mentioned the roof which was a huge deal. We found other accommodations.

Loud construction and we got put on top floor and awoke at 6:30 am to pounding. I was even wearing ear plugs because the room fan system was so unbelievably loud, sleeping barely happened as is. Dirty lobby by water station from check in to check out the same cup of water and 1/4 tank of lemon water sat along with empty snack bin. Slowest elevator. Broken pool slide, which is what we booked hotel for. Would have chosen another had we known. Especially due to the roofing operation. This room should have been heavily discounted. Will think twice to use Expedia again as there was no way for the hotel to notify me to warn of construction as they claimed to have been doing. By my using Expedia they didn’t get my phone transferred according to them. Non the less too many overlooked issues by hotel staff that were red flags. Hope we don’t come home with bed bugs.
