The Neighborhood:
Most people know about West Philadelphia from the show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The famous theme song intro put West Philly on the map and since 1990, the neighborhood has been enshrouded in a Will Smith mystique. But there's more to West Philadelphia than just that one verse.
Philadelphia is known for being a city comprised of diverse neighborhoods that were once independent towns. Over a few centuries, these towns were engulfed as the city expanded.
Once you cross the Schuylkill River along Center Cityâs western banks, West Philadelphia is a city on its own filled with Victorian mansions, an intricate network of trollies, an artist scene, and vibrant immigrant communities unlike any other section of Philadelphia.
If you come to Philadelphia and donât go to West Philly, you're missing out!
Getting Around:
Philadelphia, one of the countryâs most walkable cities, is incredibly easy to navigate either by foot or by public transportation. That just leaves one question: Where to park the car?

Philadelphia has thousands of metered spots throughout the city, perfect if you only plan to park for an hour or two.
For paid long-term parking, we'd be happy to share options with you once you book.

The building was amazing! So, so, nice! However there were no toaster and really few ustensil, plates and glasses. We were able to park for free in the street and the access was easy.
The West Lofts building is impressive, with very high ceilings, brick walls and wide hallways. Original art works line the walls of the hallways, which is a nice adds-on. The building is well maintained and clean throughout. The first floor lodge is large and tastefully pointed, equipped with multiple sitting areas, a pool table and a ping pong table. The unit itself is clean and well kept. Bedding is comfortable. Coffee and tea station is stocked with variety of choices, among the best of what we've seen in short-term rentals. A private dog park is another nice perk. The neighborhood is quiet. We would stay again.
Friends of ours have a long-term apartment in this newly renovated old school building with cool architectural features. Sosuite, which has some short-term rentals there, was great at communicating and very responsive when we reported the TV didn't work and the place was very cold and we could not get it warm despite the heaters on high. Both situations were rectified the next day. However, extra blankets in the unit should be standard. The furnishings are basic and adequate, the beds and pillows are comfortable, and I appreciated having a desk to set up my laptop. The kitchen is minimally appointed with few utensils, no hot water kettle, no strainer, but sufficient for a short stay when mainly eating out. The location is at the edge of a depressed neighborhood and an up-and-coming, delightfully multi-cultural area with some good restaurants. We were told not to be careful if going out after 9pm. Parking is a real challenge, with two-three hour maximums for spots during the day. However, overnight parking can be found on the street between 8pm to 7am. My kids enjoyed the huge lounge area on the main floor with a pool table, ping pong, and fooseball. The front desk staff and people in the building were friendly. I give a thumbs up for a short stay.
