Overall decent place to stay, but there are definitely a few downsides. Not deal breakers, but I'll outline them here in case anyone cares about these in particular: 1. The first thing you'll notice is the hotel is relatively dated. It has a bit of a "90s palace" design, and it looks like there haven't been many renovations since then. Not to say it is run down or unclean, but you will notice if this is not your style or if you prefer something more modern. 2. When we checked in, we asked for toothbrushes and slippers which we usually do when travelling. They did not have them! This is the first hotelive been to that did not have these. All 3 star and above hotels I've stayed at have had these items. (Toothbrushes and toothpaste will run about USD$12 at the next door convenience store). 3. The pool area is completely private to guests only, but the beach area will have local "tourism" salesmen for things like jet ski, parasailing, etc. DONT TALK TO THEM. Just book these events through the hotel contracted company, it is the same price (I checked). If you talk to the other salesmen on the beach, they will remember you and harass you nonstop every day for sales. 4. The walls are not very soundproof so if you are a light sleeper or early sleeper, it may be an issue. Concerts go on till 11pm every night, and even inside your room it will feel like you are in the crowd.

The staff were extremely helpful.and the resort was clean and extremely beautiful! . however the food was not good at all!! The meat and chicken were old and rubbery!! We lived on french fries and nacho!!

Would not recommend, way overpriced, and limited.
Hotel was okay, kept very clean. Not worth the $400 a night though. Little old and needs a facelift. The biggest downfall was the minimal food options, low quality of food and extreme limitations of access to food. Most of the restaurants were closed most the day, and menus EXTREMELY limited to a couple of items. The access to alcohol was very limited as well, and not much access to any other than low quality alcohol. I have been to many all-inclusive hotels and this by far was the worst. We ended up eating out most every meal and drinking primarily off property. In our room were low quality bottles in a locked cabinet, and 3-4 beers in the refrigerator. Entertainment on site was extremely lacking. Horseshoes and karaoke basically. Unfortunately, I can’t recommend this hotel, and being the “Palace” and higher priced than the other RIU’s means I certainly won’t visit any of the other RIU hotels either. Tried to make the best of it, but unfortunately it just wasn’t worth it. All the $$we spent on taxis, eating and drinking offsite, we could have enjoyed an extremely nicer Hotel. Playa Del Carmen is beautiful, safe, and amazing. RIU is not. Sorry….
