Wanted to treat my wife to a wonderful Valentine's Day, so Booked a very expensive king bed room at the Empress. It turned out to be a Gold Room, so we had access to the Gold Longe and Terrace. Service in the Gold Longe was wonderful. Best experience we have ever had. Was worth the extra expense. The staff was wonderful and very helpful.

The room was beautifully appointed and very clean, although small. The hotel is very impressive and grand. However, the concierge was disappointing. He was not very friendly, made no effort to get to know us, to personalize our experience or inquire why we were there. He did not explain the amenities or offer any advice on things to see/do in Victoria. We were there to celebrate our 30th anniversary and it was a treat for us to stay at the Empress, but I would have expected better service at a hotel of this calibre.
