one of the worst! Sleeping in is better

we stayed here for 4nights during the Monterey Car week 2025 where this hotel was normally $100/night increased to $400/night! The price was not our biggest complaint. The Laurel Inn is a 40 to 45year old hotel that has NOT been updated or renovated. The bathrooms had mold and noticeably have been painted to conceal mold issues. The AC/heater does NOT work. Walls have marks that somebody punch them. But the biggest of them all, the room literally stinks! It felt like one of those hotels/ motels that govt had turned into a homeless shelter because the odors remained! oh the breakfast? do NOT be fooled by the fake pictures showing eggs, bacon, or any meat! all they had for 5days was toast, bagels, different waffles and cereal that's it. We travel constantly around the world and we often stay and support family owned and affordable hotels/motels but this was one of the worst! Camping would be a luxury and Sleeping in my car would be more bearable!

The room was WAY OUTDATED! The bed was 10+ years old and the springs were pushing up through the padding. The "picture" breakfast is NOT what they offer - TOTAL LIE! NO EGGS, NO BACON, just Bagels and Toast. The shower had a low flow head, which was a complete joke.... 10 minutes to get the shampoo rinsed out of my hair. What was good, they have plenty of parking and the front desk staff lady was professional.

This hotel was nice for how much money we spent. It was a get what you pay for situation. The metal frames of the bed squeaked the every move, the tv was tiny and even though we told them how many guests were in the room there wasn’t enough towels. The soaps in the shower were basically empty and crusty and the microwave was in the bathroom area. Also in the pictures that they have posted online, for breakfast they have pictures of meats and eggs saying they offer breakfast which was the reason we chose this hotel. Well what they had was cold waffles, bagels, and cereal. They didn’t even have any creamer for the coffee.

My wife waited for hot water at the shower, but there was none so she finally gave up waiting. There also was no soap or shampoo in the dispensers. There were ants crawling on the bathroom counter. There was no breakfast meat at breakfast as shown in their advertisement picture. I asked for a more generous refund but was flatly refused after being blamed for not calling the desk to advise.

The property is just rough. Carpeting was in terrible shape. Air conditioning was challenging to use. There was a lot of overspray on the AC control and the windows from their spackling of the walls to try and clean the room up.

Nothing in heating dishes; all cold continental muffins, bagels, waffles, toast to be heated in toasters. Pillows were like rags stuffed into pillow cases (although staff did bring replacements when we asked). No body soap in shower dispenser; had to use shampoo to wash. Outside stairwell and steps were dirty, handrails sticky and gross. Prices jacked up for car week.

My friends and I stayed for a couple days for my birthday and it was a great stay, food was good but had limited options, wish the hot tub worked but it’s ok. Everything in the room was nice only thing I would say negatively is I wish the floors were a little cleaner, we took our shoes off and walked around for maybe 5-10 min and our feet were black. Overall great stay though thank you!
