The staff was friendly and professional. The facility was clean and comfortable. When the shuttle driver was late, they called a cab at their expense to get us to the airport in time to make our flight. The hotel is spread out and our room was located a distance from the lobby. We had to walk a distance to our room with our luggage which was not ideal. All in all it was a decent place to stay.

This hotel was chosen mainly because it had shuttle service to/from the San Diego airport. Both shuttle drivers were courteous and helpful. Food in the restaurant was very good and servers were friendly and helpful.

We stayed overnight on 1/14, the airline damaged our suitcase ripping off one wheel and cracked it exposing clothing. When we asked their maintenance department for some duct tape (we had no transportation), they told us no we could not have it. We had to door dash duct tape to the hotel in hopes it would hold on the flight to Kona. The front desk ladies were amazing! At another one of their locations there were roaches in our room and crawled on boyfriend and granddaughter during the night. The mattresses are old and uncomfortable but the worst part were the roaches. The hotel comp'd my parking fee off the bill. Sleeping with bugs is never ok and I feel the night stay total should have been comp'd. We had reservations for 1/28-1/29 and leaving for Maui on 1/29. We stayed at air bnb in Hilo and didn't want the 2 hour drive for an early flight. In addition, there was another issue with hotel in Kona While In Maui on 1/30, I viewed my credit card and had two large sum holds. When I called, they said I had two additional reservations for 1/29-1/31 which i did not make and they stated were no-shows. I did not receive any confirmation emails for those stays nor did I get any email reminders for any upcoming stays which i received for the 1/28 stay (I could have called and cancelled had i actually made them). We were in Maui during that time 1/29-1/31 so there was no need to make a reservation. This has been elevated to a management team for resolution.

I stayed in the older part of the hotel and love its shabby chic vintage feel. Nothing is lacking. My garden view is of the mini golf course. I am glad not to be on the 2nd floor with no elevators. Cafe is very good too.

I'll start with the check-in process. There were no rooms available and the check in clerk said they would be one ready in 1/2 hour. We waited 1/2 hour and then she said it would be ready in 1/2 hour. I told her that there can't be just one room in the hotel. She did nothing. Fortunately, another clerk overheard and found us a room. Very poor customer service, never even a "sorry this happened". Then the "tower" was under major construction all through the first floor...dusty, confusing, doors locked, very inconvenient. Never even a possible concession "meal voucher", "room rate reduction", nothing. Again poor customer service. The room itself was reasonable, but not above par. Had to request towels one day, changed coffee maker the next day, not enough seating, just average at best. I also stayed at a Pittsburgh base HI Express and it was average to poor at best. That review will follow. So suffice it to say HI Express did not delight us on this trip.

Beautiful property with great staff. The on-sight restaurant really exceeded our expectations-had breakfast and dinner there over the course of our stay and food and service were excellent.
