While Tex-Mex cuisine can be divine when prepared properly, too many Americans consider that to be traditional Mexican fare, which it absolutely is not. Real Mexican food includes regional ingredients and international influence. Nowhere is that on display more than in between the tortillas of Tijuana street fare. Not fully Mexican, and not at all American, Tijuana cuisine is as much Spanish, Italian, Chinese, and Japanese—thanks to the city’s immigrant population—as it is anything else. If you are planning on taking a gastronomical getaway to Baja California Norte, hotels in Tijuana make an ideal home base. Not only will you get to experience the tastes of Tijuana, you are a short drive from San Diego to the north as well as the beach resorts in Rosarito and Ensenada to the south. And, while each area has something to offer, Tijuana is central to all. If you are thinking about getting to know the Baja California Norte region and are looking for Tijuana hotels, Travelocity offers an impressive selection to choose from. We have over 45 establishments within 6 miles (10 kilometers) of downtown Tijuana, alone. Here are some of our favorite hotels in the Baja California Norte region:

Tijuana

Enlightened travelers—and your fellow wise wanderers—will tell you that the secret to smooth and easy journeys is finding a convenient location to stay, and hotels in downtown Tijuana are positioned quite nicely. Here, you will be close to the AvenidaRevolucion in the Zona Centro—the city’s main tourist district. Also nearby is Zona Norte where you can find shops, restaurants, bars, and a host of other attractions. Here are some of the more popular hotels in Tijuana:

The Aqua Rio Hotel and Hotel Ticuán, each of which are situated within a 0.6 miles (1 kilometer) walk of Tijuana's downtown precinct, are ideal if you are planning on exploring the city by foot. Both the Marriott Hotel Tijuana and HotelLucerna Tijuana are very conveniently located if you'd like to stay close to the Club Campestre Golf Course—each being less than a mile (1.5 kilometers) away. If you are looking for a frugal fiesta in Baja Norte, the Tijuana area offers a solid selection of lower-priced accommodation options sure to delight even the most budget-minded vacationers and travelers. The Fiesta Inn Tijuana Otay and the Hotel Real del Río are amongst the other economical places that you could investigate.

Simply because you're on vacation, who says you shouldn't expand your passion for sporting events? In fact, taking in a local competition may add to your greater understanding of the area’s culture. For Tijuana, that means dog racing. Agua Caliente Racetrack is 3 miles (4 kilometers) to the east of Tijuana. Visitors who are keen on booking a bed not far away, make a reservation in the Rodeway Inn or Pueblo Amigo Hotel & Casino.

  • Grand Hotel Tijuana – Situated next to the grounds of an amazing golf and spa property, the Grand Hotel is in a prime location to deliver unparalleled relaxation. After a day on the course—or the massage table—you can return to the Grand for dinner at the Plaza Café or drinks at the 4500 Café. A long day experiencing the sights, sounds, and flavors of Tijuana can drain even the savviest wanderer. You can take advantage of the Grand Hotel’s guestroom amenities—highlighted by comfortable bedding and spa-inspired toiletries— to recharge so you can do it all again tomorrow.

San Diego

Just north of the international border lies America’s Finest City, San Diego. While the beach terrain is relatively similar—and the street tacos are equally impressive—there are other points of interest to visit such as the San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park, and the Gaslamp District (especially during ComiCon). If you are planning on staying up north for a few days during your stay, you might like these following hotels:

The Hotel del Coronado is located 14 miles (22 kilometers) from the heart of Tijuana. Some other possible hotel options include the Paradise Point Resort & Spa and the Marriott Coronado Island Resort & Spa. For travelers who choose to stay near Tijuana—but on the U.S. side of the border, try the Quality Suites San Diego Otay Mesa or Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites San Diego Otay Mesa.

Rosarito and Ensenada

While Tijuana may be situated on the Pacific, it is not that much of a beach town. However, just a short drive down the Baja coast, you can experience some serenity by the sea in a number of beaches—or playas as they are known locally. Some are quaint like Puerto Nuevo, some large like Ensenada, and a few—like Rosarito—offer a little something for everyone.

Thirteen miles (20 kilometers) to the south of Tijuana, you'll also find Rosarito, which boasts the Quinta Pacifica Beachfront Villas and Rosarito Beach Hotel. The Baja Studios and Rosarito Theatre are popular attractions in between dips in the ocean and drinks at the cantina. If you would prefer another option, Las Olas Resort and Spa is located 17 miles (28 kilometers) away and offers rejuvenating treatments at its acclaimed day spa.

Fifty miles (84 kilometers) south of Tijuana, you’ll hit Ensenada, where you can explore Ensenada Regional History Museum and Riviera Cultural Center. There is also a cruise ship port and a large tourist-focused shopping area. The Corona Hotel & Spa and San Nicolas Hotel and Casino are just some of the Travelocity-listed accommodation alternatives in Ensenada. If you can see yourself in Ensenada, try out this amazing property:

  • Estero Beach Hotel & Resort – Just south of Ensenada’s central district, you’ll find this luxurious retreat, away from the crowds. With a private beach, a boat ramp, a swimming pool, and two hot tubs, there is more than ample opportunity to have fun in, on, and around the water. Enjoy Mexican and international meals at Las Terrazas Restaurant and Bar, learn about local legend and lore at the Mexican Cultural Museum, and scoop up some souvenirs at an upscale boutique—all on-site.

When you use Travelocity to help you book your stay in Baja California Norte, you’ll be able to select from cheap hotels in Tijuana, oceanfront resorts in Ensenada, upscale accommodations in San Diego, and all sorts of other options throughout the area. Because we have all of them listed in one convenient location, you’ll save a lot of time performing your search. And, with the money you save, you can afford to get a second helping of that mouthwatering carne asada burrito seasoned with dried chili peppers, cumin, clove, bay leaf, and oregano. Yum!!
