We had a great stay. The Varscona is an old hotel that has been fixed up to tell modern and comfortable. We loved the stain glass in the foyer!

Convenient location with good restaurants nearby and within walking distance of the University. Parking is tight in this area but there is complimentary parking for guests. I receive a parking ticket despite being a guest. The front desk were very helpful and went out of their way to take care of the ticket.

Good location, clean room

It was good. The mini fridge was very small so thank goodness we brought a cooler and put ice in to keep our fruit cold. I did like having soap in a bottle so we didnt have to use a bar of soap in the bathroom. One bed was definitely firmer than the other so you could tell which one had more use. Overall was a good location on Whyte which is why we picked it so we could go out to restaurants for meals.

Property has been nicely updated. Our room had broken a/c, which was why no 5 stars. They were on top of it apparently and trying to get it fixed. We were offered a bit of a discount in lieu. We will stay again. Clean with comfortable beds.

This is a nice boutique hotel in a party area. Very noisy at night with partiers yelling and cars screeching. The parkade is close and easy to access but extremely disgusting with a strong urine smell in the stairwell. The "buffet" breakfast is okay if it was free but I wouldn't pay the $17 cost- its the same continental breakfast you can get other places; pre-made eggs but no waffles. The handset of the phone in the room did not work and the fridge didn't work either. We picked this hotel because of location - we prepaid for 2 rooms for 3 nights thru Expedia only to be told that they only had one room when they checked in at 7pm.They we overbooked and had given away our room. Fortunately, they had a sister hotel a block away and our kids had to stay there for one night. It was very confusing and we were promised a refund for the one night and 50% off for our stay only to be told that because we prepaid through Expedia that there was nothing they could do. They did give us 4 vouchers for the $17 buffet breakfast which their sister hotel inlcuded for free and was much much better. Not sure I'd recommend the Varscona on Whyte but I might try the Metterra if I needed to stay in the area again

We stayed at this hotel last minute due to an unfortunate cancellation at a different property. Overall, we had a good stay. The service was good when we did have minor issues. The coffee maker would not work but was replaced very quickly. We asked for extra coffee and it was at the door very quickly. What we didn’t receive was the Expedia upgrade due to the last minute booking. The floors are hard flooring, however the cleaning staff neither swept nor washed them upon service for the second night of our stay. The opening windows were nice because the HVAC did not cool the room. I think we got a room that was the last available because this is a very busy area. We will stay again for the location and the hotel does treat the guests well.
