It's close to many of the downtown attractions. You can walk anywhere or hop on a train very easily.

The positives are great location & comfortable beds. The negatives are no Internet, no internet/smart device enabled tv, paper thin walls where you can hear everything even a pop can open in the next person’s hotel room, only a sheet & coverlet on the bed (no blanket), terrible room service (employee said they wanted to go home early, so they were closings room service for the night), the hallways on my floor had old stained carpet & a section of damaged stained & curled up wallpaper. The worst of all was upon check in our room had what appears to be a few drops of blood on the light switch & bathroom door as well as our”clean” bath mat (I’m hoping it was something else).

This was my 4th stay at this property this summer. The 3 previous were Excellent. This stay had a couple of minor issues: ice machine on 14th floor did not exist and staff did NOT not know this. It was a minor inconvenience to have to go to the 12th floor for ice. Issue was compounded by one elevator being out of service. The other 3 elevators did a good job getting people up and down.

Nice architecture (from the outside). The Congress bar was lovely. And the food (from the hotel's restaurant) was better than just edible and reasonably-priced (for Chicago). There was a shortage of draft beer, however. Worse negatives: it took a long time to get hot water, and water T was hard to control (at the sink or the tub), tub did not drain, and the deep glass shelf just above the sink was a head-banging hazard. No control over room temperature, so I was quite cold at night (in the summer).

The property was a good location for our event at Solider Field. Our room wasn’t bad but the smell of mold was strong. The bed was very firm and not very comfortable.

This is a great place to stay. This was my fourth time this summer so far. Each visit has been wonderful. Many people write this hotel off as "old". Wonderful. Spend hundreds more at a "new" hotel and enjoy their shoddy or unpredictable service. Thats what I've experienced, especially at Hilton properties.

Favorite place to stay in Chicago
We had a long weekend with another couple and The Congress was fantastic! Great location, comfy beds, lots of surrounding restaurants and the train is a few blocks away

The room was quaint but the air conditioner barely worked and was very noisy. I went to the front desk requesting a maintenance check and the women behind the counter rolled her eyes. Needless to say nobody came. It was hot and very uncomfortable. We checked out a day early and will not be back. Also the staff did not hide the fact they didn’t want to bothered with the guests.

I rarely leave reviews but feel I have to here. Location is great. Property is garbage and service is non existent. Arrived after 8:00 to check in. Last at front was nice enough but made it seem like it was an inconvenience to check us in. Place is grimy all over. Yes it’s an old hotel and I didn’t expect new finishes but there were stains everywhere from carpet to trim and walls. My room had a very strong chemical smell which made it unbearable to be in there. After a day of trying to air it out with open windows while we were out and about I finally realized the smell was coming from the bathroom somewhere. We closed the bathroom door and suffered through it while we slept. Have a 7 year old with me and needed some dinner upon arrival. They said kitchen was open until 10:00. We went down at 8:45 and was told by the young hostess that they were closed even though there were a few other diners in the restaurant. You might suggest we just go eat somewhere else. We tried that but I didn’t feel safe walking around in the area with my daughter after 9:00. Homeless people doing drugs right outside the hotel entrance and scattered along the streets and the hotel employees didn’t say or do anything to address the problem. I’m generally not one to complain and especially not in a place where they make you feel like your presence is inconvenient. We suffered through it but take my advice and stay somewhere else. I’m not some uppity traveler and I’ve had much better stays at Motel 8.
