I didn’t like that you could only use the snorkel gear for 1 hour. The food was geared toward other countries.... we did survive but was pretty blah. We also only got 1 of the 2 reservations for the restaurant due to being booked.

Well maintained and clean. The staff was very helpful at every turn. The diving and dive teams were excellent. An overabundance of beach chairs so we were able to sit in the sun or in the shade whenever we wanted. Our room did not have an ocean view which upon review there were only 4 or 5 that did. The only downside was the food at the buffets. We could always find something we liked but it was not great. The restaurants that required reservations were nice.

Great place for families especially with young children. Breakfast is excellent and so is the oriental restaurant. The rest of the food is very run of the mill. Overall happy with hotel.

first night it was really noisy. It sounded like the people left small children with a nine or ten year old boy. They beat on door, and made terrible noise untill after 2 in the morning. We would have complained, but they were going to move us to a downstairs unit the next day. everything was wonderful after move.

Really Needs Improving

The beach is amazing, but this hotel seriously needs to invest in beach umbrellas, they have to chase the shade given by palm trees, making it so difficult to find a nice shade throughout the day. I had read previews reviews and everybody complains about food, I thought they were just being picking, but after staying here, I know food is horrible here, your options come down to hamburgers, hotdogs, fries, nachos and fresh fruit, the rest in just is inedible. The breakfast and dinner buffet area is a closed in area on the second floor of the lobby without A/C and full of mosquitos. Barcelo really needs to serve better quality food, get beach umbrellas and install A/C. Our stay was horrible, never will we come back.

nice hotel

Pros: the Spa was as good as any we've been to anywhere, Beach was clean and plenty of room for everybody to have a spot.
great location, food was good scheduled hours of cafeteria/restaurant's fit any time for our trip, staff made sure we had plenty to do when we wanted to. Activity employee's made it fun and interesting for all ages to be involved in something to do daily.
