This stay was a mixed bag. First the positives: the room is decent size for the price, bed huge and super comfortable, enormous TV in the room, great air-con. The beach is 5 min walk from the hotel and the beach service was great. The food in the restaurant is really good and very fairly price. Sadly the restaurant opening hours are surprisingly limited. The rooftop is cute and gives you an opportunity for a quiet moment with a view as its barely used, but sadly it also has somewhat of an abandoned vibe Now to the negatives: The breakfast was a joke: one scrambled egg, strip of beakon and a few potatoes + drip coffee. A la cart style - which means it takes the staff 20 minutes to deliver this order to you and they manage to get it wrong 2 our of 3 times even though the menu literally has 5 items. The service in general is mediocre at best. Maria at the bar, who welcomed us on our first day was an exception - fantastic service and great care. Besides her the general vibe was that the property is severely understaffed (one person front of the house on bar and service and one back) and the few staff members who are there really can't care less. Orders are routinely mixed, bills routinely mispriced, staff don't know what's available and what isn't etc. Also, the restaurant is closed for dinner service 2 nights a week and closes early (9:45pm) the other nights. There are no views from the rooms as the hotel is boxed between buildings, the pool is tiny, cold and barely gets sun.

Our room was covered with dust the surfaces had not been wiped down in a long time. I struggled into the hotel up the stairs with some of our cases while my husband paid our taxi all the time being watched struggling into the lobby by a tall young male who worked at the hotel. No help & when I pointed out that he should have been helping me he just walked off. The so called welcome drinks were limited and the cocktail was a pre made one and again the lady serving was disinterested and rude. We did meet one pleasant person the lady who checked us in. We booked 2 nights despite leaving after 1 night , we just didn’t want to ask for a late checkout. Left the hotel at 6 pm but still we were charged over $50 for each night. No atmosphere, food I saw someone served looked awful. Not sure how this hotel is newly refurbed because it was ok but maybe not the best of finishes. Also the safe was sat under the bar in the room with no way to open the safe. When I pointed this out I was told I should have asked them to move it. Clearly that’s where there safe is positioned & I was not about to alert a hotel we needed a safe , this hotel was shabby at best poorly run for sure Go elsewhere

I didn’t know what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. The staff was professional and friendly. Lord Balfour fits in perfectly and I will be back. Sorry about all the sand.

Check in was fine. The staff are very nice. We stayed in room 401. It was hot in the room. Even though ac was set at 65 it was maybe 75+ in the room. We tried to eat leftovers in the lobby but weren’t allowed to bc the entire lobby and front and back patio apparently belong to the restaurant. So we were told we can eat in our room or on the rooftop. It is pretty expensive for what you get and a 45$ resort fee. We were given a late checkout til 12 which was nice.

There were no bulbs in the bedside lamps and the bathroom door looked like it was in a fight. It was also a very small bathroom with poor water pressure. We were not informed about the “resort charges” which basically added another 50 dollars per night for amenities we didn’t use - it is not a resort. The charges are in the fine print of your hotels.com booking and the receptionist didn’t highlight these to us until we checked out. We should’ve looked but it was very late however I think hotels.com also need to include in their cost/price

Very charming boutique-style hotel! Beautiful décor, comfortable rooms, and a peaceful location on Ocean Drive with easy access to the beach and a nice beach lounge. I’ll definitely be back — though I wouldn’t include breakfast next time, as the menu is quite limited and overpriced for what’s offered.
