I like that the hotel has a lot nature. It is well taking care. The buffet is very good. I really love the beach area. What I did not like was the time share people. They were harassing us. As soon as we arrived to the hotel and the next day. As for the rest of the staff everybody was really helpful and friendly.

All in all it was an okay stay, it is safe. It’s not loud but not quiet either. They have a few stores in the hotel or you can walk/taxi down to the hotel zone for more options. If you go a little further you will find 5th ave (Quinta Avenida) where people sell food, souvenirs, etc. The food was okay, buffet style for breakfast, lunch, dinner a good variety. For a 5-6 night stay with 2 rooms they let me choose 2 “specialty dinner” options which is more of a fancy restaurant type style. I chose Italian it was good but wish they had more sauces. The other one I chose was Japanese which was teppanyaki style, it was very good. I didn’t spend too much time at the resort we had tours we did during the day. The pool is nice. One swim up bar that is in a different pool for adults only. There is also a kiddy pool. It was very hot and humid everywhere including the room, I wish the AC got cooler. There were mosquitoes so bring bug spray. Saw monkeys and other animals around the hotel as it is set up like a jungle. The animals do not bother you. Serving staff and bartenders were all very nice however reception, concierge, and hosting staff seemed snarky. You can drink anywhere in the hotel yet they told my dad he wouldn’t be allowed to take his drink out of the buffet. I went to dinner, left for about 5 minutes, tried to use the restroom at the buffet & was told I couldn’t use the restroom there. They tell you you can’t do things just for their pleasure, all other staff didn’t mind.

First of all…the room, while oceanfront, was uncomfortably warm the entire trip. Even after frequent, daily calls, I was told a variety of excuses: a/c just repaired and be patient, give the system time to start working, “welcome to Playa del Carmen…it’s hotter here!” Our room was consistently 77-78 degrees…my candy melted in the room! Even though there is a control in the room, the worker told me it didn’t control anything. The restaurants were OK, but was told we could only order one main entree, even though I am “all inclusive.” The workers were on their cell phones a lot and not attentive to guests. Plus, if you weren’t of Hispanic descent, you got treat a little different. For instance, I was made to go back to my room to get a face mask, but when I returned, there was a Hispanic family that got sat without masks. When I mentioned it to the staff, they then went to the family and asked them to get masks. I called one night for extra beers on three separate occasions and never got them! Mini bar minimally stocked. Had to get our own water from machines. I get being “green”, but we’ve been to at least 10 other resorts in Mexico and they all seemed to be doing “green” things, but we’re very attentive and welcoming and the properties were customer oriented and put customers wants and needs first. Would never stay at this Iberostar again…too many better options for the price!! Iberostar had 6 days to make our stay right and never seemed to care. Go to Paradisus!

We have been to Quetzal quite a few times and I feel the property is going downhill! The rooms weren't as clean as we were used to in the past. The air-conditioned was not working properly. I had to call them twice...still very hot! The food was okay...Best Restaurant was "The Mediterranean," very good! Will we be back? I don't know!

This property is small enough to walk easily front to back. It is very open air and beautiful. The staff are wonderful and always eager to help. The ocean area is kept meticulously clean. The food can be repetitive and get boring after eight days but you have to please many. The shows were very professional and always had a time for the children to be involved. The jungle feel is awesome, monkeys howling over your head and peacocks everywhere. One annoying problem, and it's not the hotel's fault, is people saving seats on the beach and being gone three or four hours. We were approached three times about taking other's spots and we did not. There are signs saying saving huts is not allowed but nobody cares. We were ocean front for the last four days and the sun huts in front of those rooms were less crowded so it was less stressful. We are from Michigan and felt it was a good practice to tip but we only saw one other person tip anyone in the eight days we were there. It's a shame because I'm sure their wages are pretty miniscule. The hotel gift shop had some pretty awesome deals while we were there and our daughter got lots of nice souvenirs for her kids. When there was rain, there was entertainment in the lobby bar to enjoy. We booked with Travelocity and had no problems whatsoever. The shuttle service even contacted us before we left to ensure us we were covered for transportation. We had three meals at the specialty restaurants and they were all awesome.

Great beach, great service, good food. We saw monkeys, peacocks and other wild animals. The magic show and fire show was very entertaining. The staff was attentive. They are very Covid conscious and made us feel very safe.

We loved our entire stay at the Quetzal. The New Year's Eve Buffet dinner was exceptional and top-notch! We would definitely plan another New Year's trip, just for this alone! The only thing that was a little disappointing for us was the Sports Bar. It is very small and limited. I would think it could be expanded to include a few grab-n-go food options, and it would also be nice to have a few more t.v's.
