We booked 9 nights here thinking we’d get the relaxing, all-inclusive vacation we paid for. Instead, we got a nightmare. Our room smelled like mildew, the AC leaked so badly we had to keep a trash can under it the entire stay, and the bathroom was crawling with bugs. Guest services brushed us off until day 7 then only offered to move us because they wanted to swap our TV. The food? A disaster. The buffet was closed except for breakfast, almost every restaurant needed impossible reservations, and the few options left were terrible. The Italian place was so bad we literally spit out the food and left. We ended up booking excursions just to avoid being stuck at the hotel. On checkout day, construction crews were ripping apart the room next to us, and then the hotel tried to hold us over a missing bracelet and make us pay for it. After everything we went through, that was the final slap in the face. We come to Playa every year and love it but this resort was by far the worst experience we’ve ever had. If you’re looking for an stress-free vacation, look anywhere else.

We loved that wildlife roamed around and could be seen actively throughout the resort. The staff were extremely helpful and respectful. We wish the smoking section had more accessibility points other than the one from the pool area.

The food was good, the coffee shop was really good, and we liked that they were not pushy like other resorts trying to sell you the membership The check in was unusual, they don’t have a front desk, they only have an office for the privilege guests, I guess is an upgrade that we weren’t inform about, also on the advertisement said the brands of beer they had but we got different brand, not our favorite, we were told the other brands were for the privilege guests, (again) The area for smokers is too far from everything, we had a hard time finding it, There was supposed to be a bottle of wine in our room, we didn’t get one and we actually like to have a glass of wine on the balcony, those are some of the things we didn’t like, over all the Bell boys and the waiters did an amazing job.

Liked the staff, very friendly and helpful. What we didn't like was their restaurant/food hours. They should keep the buffet open longer at least through check in time. We checked in multiple rooms and each group got different information. Also theres only 2 pools and unless you are a member or pay extra to upgrade to Privilege you can only use 1 pool and also any "top shelf" alcohol you need to pay extra or again upgrade. I know its out of their control the amount of seaweed thats coming in but seems they only clean once a day so it smells constantly and their beach is not useable.

Beach was advertised as "white sand" but it was not usable. There was seagassum everywhere and construction equipment on the beach with the workers sleeping inside the vehcicles. Was also pressured into signing a form regarding the beach issue prior to check in without actually being shown the beach or being explained what i was being asked to sign (which i did not in the end). This is false advertising and unethical practices by both the hotel and expedia .

We recently stayed at Ocean Maya Royale and had a mixed experience. On the positive side, the staff were very kind, friendly, and attentive—especially in the dining areas. Their service made us feel welcome and taken care of throughout our stay. However, the property itself felt outdated, both in terms of aesthetics and amenities. While it was clean and well-maintained, it didn’t live up to the rating or photos we had seen beforehand. The dining areas were not air-conditioned, which made meals uncomfortable in the heat. Our room was minimally furnished—it felt more like a place to sleep than a space to relax or unwind. The shower also needs an upgrade, both in design and function. Overall, the warmth of the staff stood out, but the property could benefit from renovations and better alignment between the online presentation and the actual experience.

Me and my husband paid extra, for the privilege experience. Let’s just say we didn’t receive privilege experience at all. So much misinformation, misunderstanding, lack of communication regarding dinner reservations and other activities we were entitled to. We arrived July 8th, and our butler Allein did not come to introduce himself until our third day on the resort. Spoke with other couples, who butler’s came looking for them the same, or next day. I will just say, we will never return again! THE FOOD WAS HORRIBLE EVERYDAY. The Japanese restaurant, was the best. We made reservations, and we were told the wrong dinner reservation time and it was like no one cared. We will not be returning, I would never recommend this resort. Highly disappointed for paying extra and didn’t even leave happy.

The property was good, it was nice to have the privilege aspect. However, at the privilege beach, drinks were hard to get. The food over all was good. David our butler was amazing. It was a good property. No serious complaints. Enjoyed the trip!
