We booked 9 nights here thinking we’d get the relaxing, all-inclusive vacation we paid for. Instead, we got a nightmare. Our room smelled like mildew, the AC leaked so badly we had to keep a trash can under it the entire stay, and the bathroom was crawling with bugs. Guest services brushed us off until day 7 then only offered to move us because they wanted to swap our TV. The food? A disaster. The buffet was closed except for breakfast, almost every restaurant needed impossible reservations, and the few options left were terrible. The Italian place was so bad we literally spit out the food and left. We ended up booking excursions just to avoid being stuck at the hotel. On checkout day, construction crews were ripping apart the room next to us, and then the hotel tried to hold us over a missing bracelet and make us pay for it. After everything we went through, that was the final slap in the face. We come to Playa every year and love it but this resort was by far the worst experience we’ve ever had. If you’re looking for an stress-free vacation, look anywhere else.

This is a very nice, smaller property- we loved the staff and we were pleasantly surprised at the "fun pool" party vibe. However, the atm was broken and that was very inconvenient, as we were relying on the option to replenish our cash. Definitely would go again

my husband and friends really enjoyed our stay at Ocean Maya the resort was small enough to walk every where. I am gluten free and every restaurant was accommodating. Wish we would of came in the spring the pool was very warm in late August.

Pros.. All the amazing staff, excellent food, the evening entertainment the pool's and the wonderful beach. Cons.. No iron or ironing board ( they had a hand steamer but nowhere to hang clothes) no self serve laundry, only one mirror in the bathroom and nowhere to hang wet swim wear outside on the ground level patio..

The resort was beautiful. Food was awesome. Very clean. All service was outstay. Seaweed wasn’t too awful. Only chywoujd be they need to enclose rest and have air. After a long day in the suns would be nice to be comfortable when dining. 5 stars otherwise.

We was happy until time to leave. They said taxi US$60-US$70, but 10% they put up it was cost 90 around hundred dollars US what they told for the taxi cost, but it’s never truth. It’s always overpayment. It’s coming up. That’s only I’m not happy with that.

Negatives - Resort was at 50% cap - Front desk services was a little unwilling to help us double beds/we came late - Signing waivers, no smoking property or not allowed front entrance, Mayan Lounge and on the beach - No welcome drink - not many ac spaces, only your room, coffee bar and sports bar if working - Mayan lounge - smoking area has more potential they need a small bar here instead of library of books - Need more common area washrooms - Very smelly rotten eggs overwhelming at times especially when trying to eat or enjoy outdoors by the beach (time of year sargassum) - Food service areas some workers not as attentive - As resort is spread out could be a lot of walking for some people - Entertainment crew - the worst I have seen again perhaps because low season, no hype and very boring (only kenndell and Viri are fun poolside) - No bank machine! Positives - very clean resort and spacious/lobby area nice - Adults only - Room key is a wrist band, every building is two floors approx 6-7 units per building - Our room was spacious and modernized bathroom double sinks and upgraded. - Air conditioning in the room was great - Restaurants are decent, variety of food, recommend La Dolce Vita (Italian) atmosphere is great and service is the best - Noise level in building 32 was great not a problem - 24/7 room service if you book with Expedia (perhaps a limited time offer) - Close to Playa Del Carmen town (15-20 min) - Dj every night (not bad) but no dance floor
