"It was our first time staying at Barcelo Palace. We stayed in the Oaxaca Building and our room was somewhat close to the pools. The room itself felt spacious and had lots of storage pace for a family of three. The property itself is large and combines several of their other hotels. The hotel offers shuttle service to the other parts of the hotel but we walked and felt it wasn’t more than a 20 minute walk to get to their furthest property. This is an all inclusive resort but we were not premium so we didn’t have free room service. My daughter was bummed about it but it was ok as we didn’t spend much time in the room. We liked the food at the buffet as well as their Brazilian and Seafood restaurants. Staying in the Palace allows you to eat at restaurants at the other properties. We also ate at their Italian and Spanish restaurant. Overall, we really liked the food! The servers were attentive and friendly. The only issue is having to make reservations for some of the restaurants. We really wanted to try their hibachi restaurant but we realized too late that we needed to make reservations at the beginning of our trip vs towards the end. The sargassum is prominent but we also travelled during the month of May. We didn’t swim in the beach because of the sargassum. The hotel was probably at 60% capacity and it could be a result of the sargassum. On the bright side, we had no issues finding lounge chairs by the pool. The pool is great! We also enjoyed the entertainment."

"I loved the fact that the children I with had many options to do. A lot of activities and having the waterpark right in front of our room was amazing. The staff were really helpful in making sure our group was in the same building and some of us were side by side or on the same floor. I had an issues with cockroaches in my room and one of the night staff, I believe his name was Oscar, made sure we were moved to another room quickly. He then had us moved again, so we were back facing the pool. I now these things are not in the control and wasn’t mad at the staff for this. Just happy they accommodate my family so quickly. Our new room had no issues at all. Guest services, was great as well, I do forget the gentleman’s name that got me complementary late check out for my inconvenience. This was very helpful since we had small children with us and pick up was in the evening. I absolutely love all the wildlife on the resort. I saw the crocodile, raccoons, coatis, lizards, a deer, and my favourite, the monkeys. The downside for me, was the beach and how rocky it was. Some rocks are so big that the children weren’t able to enjoy it and never wanted to go back in. The staff did a great good at cleaning the sargassum. Even though it made the water look brown and difficult to see where the rocks were. I love the ocean since I don’t live near one. I just wish the rocks weren’t an issue."

"The rooms were very outdated. Grout in the bathroom was shower was falling out. Buffet was absolutely terrible, they served the same chicken for breakfast lunch and dinner. Al carte restaurants were decent especially the Japanese hibachi. The beach was full of sargassum and had a horrible smell that lingered all the way to the lobby. We stayed 7 days and the resort only made one attempt to clean the beach to only 1/2 of the resort. This is our second time at Barceló and will definitely be our last."
