Spacious oceanfront vacation home located on the Bonavista Peninsula.

This spacious home offers modern comforts and conveniences, privacy and beautiful views. An ideal place to relax, unwind and take in the natural coastal surroundings. Explore the many natural, historic and cultural features of this popular tourist area. Located in the quiet and beautiful town of Southern Bay, it is 26 kilometers from historic Trinity and 70 Kilometers from historic Bonavista. Spend the day hiking, sightseeing, visiting a puffin colony (in season), watch for whales, take a boat tour, shop the specialty shops, eat at an outstanding restaurant, go golfing or to the theatre.
Property is located on Route 235, approximately 2.6 kilometers from the intersection at Route 230.
While we do not have a cable or satellite television subscription we do have high speed internet and a television monitor. We have a Netflix subscription. We also have a good selection of reading materials, available including, the Newfoundland Quarterly, the New Yorker, many poetry books, art books and other publications with a NL focus.
This reservation has a Flexible cancellation policy - refunds will be issued up to 30 days prior to the check in date.
A 100% refund is provided for travellers cancelling at least 30 days before check-in. A 50% refund is provided for travellers cancelling from 14 to 29 days before check-in. No refunds are provided for travellers cancelling less than 14 days prior to check-in. CanadaStays Booking Fees are refundable if you cancel within 48 hours of placing your booking request.

Mayo Cottage is situated in a beautiful location overlooking a bay. It is comfortable, clean and cozy. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to family and friends. The only negative is that the oven was not working (but our host Betty was careful to let us know in advance.). I’m sure that problem will be remedied soon and we didn’t really need it anyway. We would choose to stay there again for sure. Beautiful!!

Quiet, tranquil setting which was a great start to our NL vacation...a great way to unwind before touring other places. If you're lucky, you'll also get a pod of dolphins swimming in the Bay. We recommend a visit to Trinity...beautifully preserved fishing village now dependent solely on tourism. Bring some peanuts for the red squirrels...they drop by every morning and evening to say "hi"!

Perfect location

Mayo Cottage is a perfect location for getting to many other sites in the Bonavista Peninsula with the cottage waiting for you with beautiful views of Southern Bay at the end of the day. The driveway was steep for our front wheel drive rented car. AWD would have handled it easily. And so we parked at the top of the driveway just to make it easier on ourselves. Easy access to Trinity, Bonavista, Tickle Cove. Lots of tourist information available at the cottage. Don't miss the Historical Walking Tour in Trinity with Kevin.

Beautiful stay on the bay

We enjoyed our relaxing stay at this beautiful property. The view is amazing. We could have easily stayed longer than two days. The driveway is wicked steep at the top but we had no problem with access once we figured it out. Very nice place which we recommend.

Breath taking

This beautiful home was a treasure. The first day, looking out to the bay, was a special moment for me. 2 humpback whales swam by. I couldn’t believe my eyes. The home is situated in a beautiful side hill on the water. We saw eagles, whales , seagulls. I got to see snow. We live in Florida so it was exciting. The bath upstairs was beautiful and relaxing. We needed nothing. Everything was beautifully done in this home. Hopefully we will get a chance to return to this property soon. Thank you Betty.

Great spot for exploring the Bonavista Peninsula

We really enjoyed this well equipped and maintained home on the quiet side of the Bonavista Peninsula. It’s a great base to explore up to Bonavista as well as across to the Trinity side. Views and location are great. We also appreciated the interesting artwork.

One of the best.

We had a lovely experience at Mayo Cottage. We loved every bit of our stay there. I also enjoyed reading about the history of the cottage and it's owners (I highly recommend reading it). The only issue we had was the cottage only had two beds. From what we understood, we were expected three beds, but the downstairs sofa was more than spacious and comfortable enough to have a great nights sleep on. Thank you again for a wonderful vacation, we look forward to staying with you again in the future.

Poor driveway ruined an otherwise beautiful holiday getaway

The cottage was beautiful and the views were stunning. However, we had a situation happen on the second day of our two day stay that really ruined the second day of our vacation there. I feel that this could have been prevented. Going into the mayo cottage, There is a very steep driveway that requires a sharp turn from the highway. We managed to enter the driveway OK although we were not advised that we should be cautious when doing do. I feel this could have been included in the welcome email with the important information. We had rain the first evening and rain the next morning. When we went to head out to Bonavista that second day, our car got stuck in the loose wet gravel on the top of the steep driveway. To make a long story short, we had to get our car towed which cost $200, which we paid ourselves. The money was not the only issue. It literally took me all day to find someone between Bonavista and Clarenville to come and help us. A gentleman from Oceanview towing company did, and he was very helpful. We appreciated him very much, although we were very sorry that we had to spend our second day of our vacation at the mayo cottage waiting for a tow. It was all very stressful, not what we hoped for our holiday. I was nervous on our departure having to exit this driveway. Thankfully, I made it out ,but feel this was an unnecessary amount of stress and expense. My recommendation would be until this driveway is paved at least advise future clientele of this issue.

What a place
