Douglas Fir Needs Maintenance

Pros: We like the location.
Cons: Requires a lot of maintenance for the entire facility.
Location: Good bus service to downtown and Sulphur Mountain.
We checked in to find that the kitchen light didn't work. A call for repairs and 2 hours later a maintenance man showed up.He was unable to fix the light and after trying to change the bulbs, which didn't work he gave up. This was fixed the following day (PM). The wifi didn't work in he room. I had to go to the office to connect for the first 2 days. I finally worked on the 3rd day after getting them to disconnect the router and restart it. The fireplace lacked kindling wood and the protective screen kept dislodging when trying to open and close it. We have spent time at the Douglas Fir on many occasions, over the past 10 years and this is the first time we have not enjoyed our stay. To make matters worse was the high rates.

Overpriced dissapointment. A cheaply built 70's apartment complex cheaply furnished. This is two-star lodging. Soft mattress (no love if you know what I mean), the cheapest possible sheets and towels. My wife says it smelled musty. Our unit was partially below grade (basement windows in bedroom). 25-minute walk to Banff restaurants. Staff was unfriendly on arrival. In the lobby my wife asked if she could use the restroom and staff suggested she could go "across the street". After asking the staff what they did she was directed to a toilet in the registration building.

Loved the area, walking distance to downtown or bus stop right in front. Small grocery store and laundry on site. Did not use pool areas, so no info there. Staff was fantastic and helpful. Room was good size, basic kitchen supplies. Could use some updates and repairs, but still nice atmosphere. Front door and leaky toilet needs repair.

Had to have key to room reset 3x. No reminding children of pool rules. Beds not comfortable. Someone smoking below our room so we couldn't have the sliding door open for fresh air. But view from room of mountains amazing.

Expensive

Pros: Staff is friendly and accomodating. Clean room. Close to town if that matters. I always come on Fathers Day weekend for a car event.
Cons: Price is to much
Location: Close to the campground. If you are a skier it is close to Mt Norquay. Lots of wildlife.
$155 a night US funds is a bit much, especially when I stay on the beach at Puerto Vallarta in a 1 bedroom condo and have the best restaurants in PV within walking distance. Also a Canadian friend from Saskatoon stayed at the Douglas Fir the same time as me and paid the same amount only in Canadian funds. With the dollar favoring the US at about $1 in US funds is equal to $1.32 in Canadian funds. Which means the Canadian friend is paying $117 per night in US funds after the conversion. So who is getting the extra $38? Travelocity or Douglas Fir? Or are they favoring the countryman over the other folks. I have stayed at this hotel several times and I will stay again. My gripe is the price.

Good location, could use some updates

Rooms are large and kitchen is useful, however the furniture is outdated and has a smell to it. Good for large families.

Fathers Day Weekend

Pros: Front desk was very helpful. Maid service was excellent. Safe in the room.
Cons: TV channels don't match up with the paper they give you. TV is only for late night as there is so much to do and see.
Location: Great Views, Close to Town.
For once the weather was good, not the best but at least it didn't rain every day. Douglas Fir is a great place to stay. Great views, close to town, has a grocery store near by. We will stay there again.
