Good enough for the price

On my last visit to NYC 3 years ago, I stayed here and was very happy with the proximity to the 40th and Lowery train stop (tracks are right in front of the hotel) and the less than 15 minute ride to downtown Manhattan so I chose it again for this visit. They offer free breakfast which is nice if you don't mind the simple minimal options and for the rate, if you can get a good one, I can't complain. There are diners and restaurants that are a minute's walk in either direction and a McDonald's right next to the hotel so lots of food options nearby. I reserved the King suite for $130/night and was pleased with the room on the 3rd floor. Do not book a room on the first floor unless you don't mind having a window and the heater/ A/C unit 5 feet above you and can't be reached unless you are 7 feet tall. I had to climb on the chair to reach the controls on the unit. It felt like a dungeon down there. I had to add my 1st day separately prior to arriving and thankfully I was only in the room for 5 hours (needed to sleep after a red-eye flight) before moving into the King suite. I guess since it was a very late check-in which I called them the day prior to let them know (8am next day), this was the last option available.

Good Location for Price, when it is cheap.

Cons: rattling air conditioner in our room, THAT LOUD BACK DOOR THAT SLAMS.
Location: Walking distance to subway with only a few stops into Manhattan.
This location is within walking distance to a subway stop, and the line leads directly into Grand Central Terminal and then Times Square (after a few stops). Great for location, but it is older and shows. It is not bad, just not a expensive hotel. It has VERY LITTLE PARKING.... let me repeat, very pain in the butt type of parking. IT is first come first serve, and you better get a good spot that you can get out of. We drove in from the bottom of Georgia and was lucky to get the 2nd to last spot available. Do the satellite image to see the rear of hotel so you are prepped. With that said, how many places in NYC have FREE parking. Another COOL thing is the rooftop deck so that you can see Manhattan at night. This is super cool for anyone on their first time into NYC. I have been to NYC several times and this was still cool to me, stayed up there taking dozens of photos. Take a tripod and do time lapse shots, I was lucky enough to have my Canon 5D camera. The hotel is easy to drive to, and there is a McDonalds right next door. If you want to stay on foot and use the subway to get straight into Manhattan, this is a great location to do so on the cheap and so close.

Decent hotel close to subway

Pros: Close to subway. Cheaper than staying in Manhattan.
Cons: Room could have been cleaner and breakfast better.
Location: Easy to get to Manhattan from subway.
Good location near subway. Room was ok, average. No cable TV, hair dryer was broken. Breakfast was ok, nothing special.

Good location for a mediocre hotel

The TV has only a handful of channels, including no ESPN (ESPN2 though), the internet basically shuts down around 9:30pm and the staff is barely above useless. The neighborhood does have a lot of options and is only a few blocks from the Local 7 train stop.

Large room for New York City breakfast was nice .

Room was in the basement which was a bit depressing but the room was larger than other New York City hotels. It was clean except for the long black hair on my pillow.
