No towels in the room, poor check-in experience, located near loud restaurants / clubs, resulting in a very unpleasant noise level in the room.

Clean and comfy

Very clean and comfortable despite being an old hotel. It was neat to stay in an old room. Very conveniently located although parking was a few blocks away. Plan for that.

Everything about our stay initially was amazing; the location, the style, and the general atmosphere of the hotel. Unfortunately, we encountered a serious issue that was handled with what felt like minimal care or accountability. We found a mouse and visible feces in our room, and despite how concerning this was, especially as immunocompromised guests, the response from the hotel put most of the blame on us. Rather than acknowledging how serious this situation was, we were met with frustration when we expressed that we felt the incident warranted more than just a room change and a $50 food voucher for the restaurant downstairs. There was feces less than a foot away from our belongings. That is not just gross, it is a health and safety risk. And being offered food in the same building where we found mice just did not feel like a solution. The service was polite but became noticeably less accommodating once we expressed our concerns. We would have loved to stay here again, but we have lost the sense of security and comfort we had when we first arrived.

Avoid room 44 at all cost. Noisy, tiny, ripped carpet, noisy AC unit. I am positive that these hotels give the worst rooms for Expedia customers. I saw a few of the other rooms by other guests and those rooms were spacious and very clean. Awful noise from other rooms by people who were slamming doors and partying all night. Hotel staff did nothing about it. Expedia ought to do some research on the accommodation that is being provided to their members. This is now a constant with all properties (UK, Scotland, Lisbon, Victoria etc. etc.).

Charming property, right on Government Road, which on the weekend get completely shutdown, leaving you parking down the street to unload. Parking area for the hotel is at least a block away. Lots to do on Government St, but was slighty noisy at night.

Not for mobility challenged people.

If you want to see downtown Victoria mostly by foot, it is a great location. Most of the staff were helpful but only a couple were happy to help. My mom rented a scooter for the weekend. The check in staff were extremely nice about it and offered her a place to park and charge in the lobby. It was very difficult to get in and out if the elevator. I was hoping for an “antique” experience. The room was large, clean but oddly shaped. A step up to the washroom, confusing shower bath tap and a difficult to manoeuvre sliding door. The lobby was upstairs. No room service or restaurant. Towels and bedding were nice. I’ve travelled extensively and never have I had an envelope that requested room service tip. I don’t need prompting but maybe others do.

I loved that it was near Inner Harbour and there were so many dining options right outside the hotel. The linens and bathroom were clean and much appreciated. There is coffee and tea in the lobby at all hours, which is nice. The staff was kind and wonderful. The only thing I will say is bring a pair of flip flops with you for the shower/tub, just in case. It looks outdated and a little funky that I didn’t feel comfortable showering barefoot.
