Nice pool area but whiffy room

The common area (pool and breakfast area outside) is very nice. Our room, however, smelled quite strongly of mould or mildew. If you are the type that just needs a bed to lay your head and you plan to spend most of your stay outside near the pool, then the price might be right. It is not a costly hotel. The area surrounding the hotel, near the lagoon, is also very unpleasant smelling so evening strolls aren't so pleasurable. The staff was pleasant.

The desk clerk wouldn't call for a confirmation of my shuttle and they left me.

If you are looking for local hospitality, this hotel can't be beat!

Pros: Free breakfast, Free Internet, Quiet
Cons: lagoon not swimable
We throughly enjoyed our stay at this quiet, quaint hotel. The staff was very helpful and caring, the rooms and pool were clean, and we felt at home here. The wicker funiture was a little old, but the location is great (one block from the bus stop and about 1 km. from Playa Langosta, and next door to the golf course). It is also within walking distance of a small shopping mall and many restaurants. If you are looking for a change from all the bustle and chaos of the larger resorts and are looking to take in Cancun on a budget, this might be the place for you! We absolutely loved the family feel it had. There are no bells and whistles here- just peace and quiet on the lagoon with a small, well-maintained swimming pool! We can't wait to go back, and wouldn't dream of going back to Cancun and not staying here. FYI, the Mexican breakfast they serve is simple but delicious!

Great service

Pros: refregerator
I definely recommend this hotel to everyone the service was great the rooms nice and clean, the beds are a a bit hard and they could use a refrigerator to store beverages since all the stores around are close. The hotel is located in the Hotel Zone wich makes it very safe to walk around during the night. Would definitely go back.

Robbed within 2 hours of arriving!

The location of the hotel was good, not too far of a walk from the restaurants and bars. When we checked in around 8pm, we asked the person at the desk to arrange a taxi for us in the morning because we would be flying out the next day. We then put everything in the room and left the room for about 2hrs to have dinner. When we got back to the room, we noticed that one of our bags looked different. We then found that we had a large amount of money stolen from the bag. The person didn't take all of the money, probably hoping that we wouldn't notice until after we left the next day. We then noticed that the room no longer locked properly. We DO NOT recommend this hotel. And if you still decide to stay here, do not stay on the ground floor room 318, and make sure that your room properly locks even after you jiggle the handle. There are much better hotels for the same price in the downtown area if you are just coming through for a night.

cheap price for a great location

Pros: Free Internet
I stayed here with my sister for spring break (18 & 20 yrs) and the price was excellent, the hotel isn't bad or grimey, it's really cute and overlooking the lagoon (when you look right across you see Senior Frogs!) we decided to walk everywhere and it wasn't that bad. There's a market right around the corner, and a 15 min walk you can be by all the clubs and everything. the staff didn't speak english very well but they were super nice! has a cute little pool, hammocks and a bar in the back.. it was a little noisy but it didn't ruin my time by any means. i really loved this little place other than not being able to figure out the phone, and the shower would randomly get cold (but get hot and steamy right after :)) If you're trying to save money, i definitely reccomend this place! next time it would be nice to do all inclusive, but i would go back to GRL again anytime.

This was a relaxing villa type hotel

Pros: Free breakfast, Close restaurants, Quiet
Cons: No free Internet
We had a great time and the hotel was very clean & comfortable. We were able to get authentic meals at the "palapa" or outdoor patio style restaurant in the backyard area, also, The hotel had a lovely pool and was situated right along the beach strip.

Nice Budget Hotel

I have stayed here 5 times. Hotel is small with no elevator. Rooms have refrigerators and are clean - bathrooms are clean too. Some have stoves. Pool is tiny but refreshing and clean. View of lagoon is pretty. You cant swim in lagoon. Made to order included breakfast is normally 2 choices - an egg choice and pancakes and is great! Walk across the street to the Presidente for a wonderful beach. Location is on a pretty side street full of nice homes and wealthy people - just look at the cars and yachts on lagoon! You are a 4 minutes walk to best beach in Cancu and about a 10 minute walk to party central. When my husband and I travel weekends to Cancun we always stay here -f or less than $50 per nite you cannot beat it! When we travel with the kids we stay at the big AI resorts but I really prefer this place. We go back every year - at least 3-3 times. It isn't grand or royal but is cute and clean and a nice base for vacationing!
