I love the Riu chain, they are my go to when I travel out of the country. I stayed at the Riu Cancun for 5 days and the only thing that keeps me from giving a 5 star is the humidity in the rooms which made my sheets feel damp my entire stay. I’m not sure anything can be done about that, the hotel sits on the beach and I had a full ocean view room. Although I didn’t care for the damp feeling sheets, I didn’t complain. I traveled alone and I felt safe, my room was clean, the facility was clean, there was plenty of entertainment, the food choices were good, the customer service was excellent. Would I return to this hotel? Yes, I’d return and I would bring my small dehumidifier with me. I’m preparing to book the Riu in the DR and I’ll take my small dehumidifier just to be on the safe side…I just don’t like damp sheets. The Riu chain will continue to receive my business, well figure out the humid rooms…lol.

Only had one smoking area, couldn’t smoke vapes outdoors unless in that tiny smoking area which only fit about 5 people.. Also they did not allow any speakers, and were very strict about how much you had to drink.

The hotel is old dated in one of the towers, the other tower I’m not sure. The service is great throughout the hotel, but in the pool, there is not bartender, you need to get your own drinks from the bar. The AC is horrible, the standard is 24 Centigrade/75 Fahrenheit, it’s extremely hot. The food is ok, but the same everyday, the restaurants are also very warm; you see people taking their own personal small fans. The entertainment is good. The bar pool is dirty by the middle of the day, the other pools are good, especially the quiet pool. The worse part right now is the sea weed, you can’t even get in the beach. The personnel is very nice, trying their best, they work hard to serve you.
