“Classically American” in its design, this family home in Woodstock is very flexible. The main house has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms---it sleeps 7 adults. Not enough space? There is also a newly furnished, one-bedroom apartment that can accommodate 4 more adults (extra cost). So, a total of 11 adults can be comfortably accommodated. Large family gatherings are very popular here. And in the warmer months, there is a very special pool/pond.

Both the main house and the apartment have their own laundry facilities. The spacious deck off the main-house kitchen is great for outdoor cooking on the gas grill, and the large backyard is wonderful for playing. The man-made natural pool pond is wonderful for swimming during the summer months, and beautiful to look at any time of year. The pool/pond is lined, fresh water, filtered by special plants. No chemicals at all. The black liner absorbs a lot of sun, and the pond is heated naturally that way.

If you're here during the winter, you can enjoy the cozy woodstove in the dining room, safe and snug as you drink your morning coffee looking out into the woods to spot wildlife, and to watch the snow fall on the pond. The backyard is big, a perfect place for building your best snowman ever!

The name of our property—Shanti Neer—means place of peace. It is a serene and spacious 2+ acre property. This house is conveniently located. It is less than 10 minutes from Woodstock, 12 minutes to Saugerties, and about 12 minutes to Kingston as well.

All hardwood floors downstairs and new bamboo floors upstairs. In the main house, bedrooms are all upstairs and include two queen bedrooms and a bedroom with two twin beds, each with special new non-allergenic, soy foam mattresses. The fourth bedroom has a new, full-size, sofa-bed plus a desk for anyone with work to do or a book to write! Master bedroom and bathroom are en-suite, and there is a second full bathroom upstairs in the hall. A third full bathroom is on the first floor.

The colorful country kitchen has everything you need to make the best cup of coffee or cook up a storm, and it is laid out so that more than one cook can enjoy it at the same time! New appliances include a gas range top, double electric ovens, microwave, etc. The 28-ft open-plan kitchen/dining room is bright and airy and includes a table that seats 6 - 10. All ready for family breakfasts, a down-home meal, a sophisticated dinner party or a special celebration!

It’s an easy few steps round the brick wall divider into to the welcoming living room, where everyone can comfortably sink into sofas to chill-out, talk, read, snooze or savor!

And a few steps from there, an inviting East-meets-West TV room/den boasts a stunning oriental carpet, embroidered pillows and hand-woven throws strewn over the love-seat and sofa. A new Samsung 46” TV is tucked away into a handsome Chinese cinnabar-red lacquer cabinet. Books and games are stashed on shelves for you to enjoy and peruse.

The property is amazingly flexible. Plenty of space in the common areas, and plenty of space for privacy as well.

SETTING: Nestled in the woods on the edge of Woodstock, you are less than 10 minutes from the center of the town of Woodstock. But you are also just about twelve minutes away from Saugerties for great antiquing and HITS! And if you have Mall withdrawal, a fifteen-minute drive will take you to Kingston for suburban shopping, or a quaint visit to the Stockade Area where the original capital of New York State was actually placed!
THINGS TO DO: Woodstock, the original Colony of the Arts, is on the threshold of the 700,000-acre Catskill State Park, where a farming community settled by the Dutch in the 17th century found a way to accommodate all those crazy artists that arrived in the early 20th century. The beauty of the Catskill Mountains inspired the Byrdcliffe Art Colony, became the summer home of the New York Art Students League, and gave rise to the Maverick Concert Hall. There is more to do here than you can imagine!
There are great restaurants and cafes boasting international cuisine as well as American, boutiques, antique stores, health-food stores, an art store, a movie house, two book stores, an exceptional shoe store, and the best hardware store in the world. And, of course, you can visit Byrdcliffe and The Woodstock Artists Association and Museum, or you can hear great chamber music in the woods at Maverick.
Nearby you will find golf, horseback riding, hiking, fishing, tennis, river walks and even river dips, bike rentals, sledding and snow-shoeing. Check out galleries, the week-end flea market, mid-week farmer's market. And as you'd expect in Woodstock -- there’s a wide selection of yoga, massage, Pilates, Reiki, and Qigong, not to mention spa services. If esoterica is what you are after, psychic, tarot and astrological readings are of course always on offer! For fun, join the Sunday afternoon open drumming sessions on 'the village green' right in the center of town.
