Historic Duplex on Stivers Row, West 138th St. in Harlem, Min 29 night stay

Located on West 138th Street on Striver's Row in one of West Harlem's most historic and iconic blocks, you will enjoy this beautifully custom architectural designed townhouse suitable for up to ten guests. This townhouse has received a full gut renovation taking into account the original details which have been restored and finished/ furnished with a modern-contemporary interior design. Our home is without a doubt the perfect vacation home if you are looking for a luxurious, convenient, and easily accessible location. Spacious and comfortable short or long term visit.

Our home features its own private entrance on the ground level of the townhouse. The owner lives in the top portion of the townhouse which is separated by a locked door located in the stairway, giving any guest their own privacy throughout their entire stay. There are a total of four queen size beds and one full size bed accommodating up to ten guests. Please note: Each bed is a pull out sofa but extremely comfortable and thick-style mattress pad to allow the maximum amount of comfort-ability. Bed sheets, towels and pillows are included within every reservation.

As you enter the home and open the front door you will be greeted by the living room which is where the first two queen sized sofa beds are located along with a wall-hung TV with cable. Exiting the living room area you will enter the main hallway which allows access to a full bathroom with standing shower, large eat-in chef's kitchen and custom architectural staircase allowing entry to the second lower level of this duplex. This home allows access to two full floors.

The large eat-in chef's kitchen accommodates all ten guests with plenty of silverware and glasses for each individual. The kitchen has a full stock of pots and pans, plates and bowls, coffee maker and wine cooler in the office area.

Exiting the kitchen in the northern portion of this home, you will find the laundry room with a washer/dryer and the entrance to the outdoor patio designed with modern/contemporary furniture and plants alongside a beautiful custom tall wooden fence decorated with festive lights. This would be your designated smoking area or just a nice place to hang out and enjoy some fresh air.

Once you enter the lower floor you will find a common living space with wall hung tv and a queen size sofa bed. In this area you can also find the office area with the wine cooler and the second bathroom which is another full bathroom with a standing shower. There is free wifi throughout the entire home. Standing in the middle of the common space in the lower level you can find a room on either side both with closets, wall hung tv's and one room equipped with a full size pull out sofa bed and another with a queen size sofa bed.

We are always just a phone call or text away in the event of assistance or questions/concerns should any occur.

Harlem is long known for its intimate jazz clubs, soul food institutions and traditional heritage, Harlem draws a diverse crowd of locals and visitors. Trendy eateries, stylish clubs and hip bars make for an energetic nightlife scene. The area features a mix of 19th-century brownstones and modern high-rises. Its main artery, 125th Street, is home to the iconic Apollo Theater, as well as chain stores and restaurants.

This home is very close to the 2/3 subway as well as access to the 4/5/6 and A/C B/D and easy transportation to central park.

Our home is an enormous space and worth every penny if you are looking for a clean beautiful space.

We will have one of our co-hosts check you in and get you settled but then you have the entire Duplex to yourself :)

Un petit nid dans Harlem

Nous avons passĂ© un super sĂ©jour dans la maison d’Alan. Nous avions Ă  disposition de nombreux Ă©quipements bien utiles durant notre sĂ©jour! Amazing place to stay

We've just returned to the UK after a 7 night stay at Alan's place which is superb in every aspect. This beautifully presented Brownstone in Harlem has everything you will need for your stay. The property has all the mod cons you could wish for and was extremely comfortable for our family of 9. Alan's attention to detail, leaving plenty of bottled water in the fridge and providing tea and coffee choices was a lovely touch. The property is very well situated for the subway, it's in a nice safe area and is close to local shops, including McDonalds for those fussy youngsters! Alan is very attentive if you need anything or want any advice about shows, shops (Century 21, thanks for that Alan!) and places to eat etc. His Retriever 'pup' Henry is adorable... We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would highly recommend this 5* property as a place to stay.

What a place - why would you stay anywhere else?

I love to visit NYC - my one complaint has always been that the places I stay with my family of 4 in NYC are slightly smaller than my closet at home - unless I want to put a 2nd mortgage on the house. Problem solved - huge space here - and a great owner - and a reasonable price. STAY HERE.

Alan and his property are the gold standard!

Far and away THE BEST home share experience we’ve ever had! We were in NY for a long weekend in order to attend a friend’s wedding. It’s tough to find a location in Manhattan for four couples and we were incredibly fortunate to find Alan’s property. He (and his sweet pup Henry) greeted us at checkin and gave us the tour of his beautifully renovated property. Honestly, the pictures don’t do it justice. We were pleasantly surprised to find out that he had just recently added a second shower, which was a big asset for our group of 8. The kitchen was gorgeous, modern, and spacious. Since we had four couples and used the two “living room” spaces as bedrooms, the kitchen became our main hangout space and easily/comfortably accommodated our large group. Alan lives upstairs and was readily available to answer questions, help us with show tickets, and even brought us bottled water (while it seems like a simple gesture, it’s those small touches that truly made the difference). From start to finish he was accommodating and welcoming, and we truly felt at home in his place. I will say only two of the bedrooms are traditional bedrooms, while the other two are living rooms (the upstairs living room has a pocket door and could still be closed off, while the downstairs living room was flanked on either side by the two bedrooms). Our four couples have traveled together several times and the layout worked perfectly for us, but if you’re traveling with a group where everyone prefers to have their own private spaces this may not be the best choice for you. (I would still encourage anyone to overcome that need for complete privacy because this place is absolutely worth it!) The location in Harlem is fantastic. It’s a great neighborhood, easily walkable to many amenities and close to subways to go both downtown and up. We highly recommend a visit to “Harlem Nights” bar, and a restaurant called “Ruby’s Vintage” - both within two blocks of the house. We also thoroughly enjoyed “Act III Bagels,” which was less than a ten minute walk. Alan and his home truly are the gold standard by which we will all measure any future home shares. I encourage anyone visiting NY to stay in this beautiful home and enjoy Alan’s unparalleled hospitality.

Beautiful, clean, and spacious.

Traveling with 5 adults and 4 teens, we had plenty of room here. It was our first time in New York and we all felt safe and well taken care of by Alan. He was welcoming and helpful in anything we needed. We actually had the opportunity to meet Alan when he offered to help us find the perfect Broadway play that fit our group. Such a great guy! The house was beautiful, newly renovated, very clean, and had everything we needed. Would absolutely recommend staying here and we sure hope to stay here again if we are ever able to travel back to this corner of the US.

Gorgeous high spec apartment with great host

Stayed at this property with three friends. Check in was really easy, Alan met us at the property as he lives upstairs, showed us around and gave us the door code. This was particularly useful as we did not have to worry about sharing keys. Alan was completely unobtrusive even though just upstairs (door between rented apartments and his part of the house) but very approachable if we needed anything. The apartment has been refurbished to a high standard and is tastefully decorated. The rooms are of a good size, it's worth noting the layout for sleeping is 3 interconnected rooms in the basement and the 2nd shower room leads off of the middle room so for us we utilised the main lounge as the 3rd bedroom otherwise whoever slept in the middle room would not have much privacy. The sofa beds are comfortable so that was a concern waylaid. A bonus was that the property now has 2 full shower rooms rather than just one with another wc as it was when we booked. Location was fine, easy quick walk to subway, supermsrket, deli and nice bar serving food all within two blocks. The neighbourhood also felt safe. Half hour walk to Central Park. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again and highly recommend it!

Fantastic place in New York!

Alan is a great host, he was helpful and friendly . His place is in a historic neighborhood in West Harlem where he poured his heart and soul in an exquisite renovation. The area is quite safe and convenient to subways. His Golden Retriever, Henry, is a friendly pooch. 5 stars all around. You won't be disappointed!

The only place Dog the Bounty Hunter will stay in NYC

Yes- you read that right. I work with Duane "Dog" Chapman and he stayed here on a recent trip to NYC. Alan was THE BEST- and made Dog feel right at home (which is tough because he travels so much). Thank you to Alan and Armani for being such amazing hosts. Dog even gave a shout out to them on Good Morning America- saying this is the only place he will stay when he travels to NYC!

Amazing owner & beautiful home

Alan was the most gracious and accommodating host I have ever had!! The home was absolutely wonderful with update to date decor and amazing appliances/amenities. The sofa beds were the most comfortable pull outs I have ever slept on. We comfortably fit over 8 people within all the rooms. Once the second shower is completed it would be a perfect space! The neighborhood is lovely and we comfortably walked around at night with easy parking!

Historic Beauty

Where do I begin! Alan is the greatest host ever! We called him the day of arrival and asked if we could check in early and he accommodated us without hesitation. Armani, assistant, met us there and explained everything we needed to know about the two floors in Alan’s home we would be staying in. This historic home has been totally renovated. The home decor is modern meets classic architecture. The two floors we stayed in were spacious and very clean with everything we needed. As a mother of three I especially appreciated the top of the line washer & dryer, it really made a difference. One concern we had before booking was the fact there were only sofa beds in this rental, but these turned out to be very comfortable and every one could have their own bed if they chose to. We asked Alan to recommend restaurants close by and these didn’t disappoint. Since he is an actor he even offered to help us get tickets for Broadway at a discounted price, so we attended the show we had originally booked plus one more at a discounted price, with his help. This was our third trip to New York and every time we have a totally different experience. This time we got to explore Harlem aside of other planned excursions. Amateur night at the Apollo was awesome! Red Rooster (famous restaurant) was good but pricey. We always felt safe and are glad we decided to stay in Alan’s place.

An awesome property Five Stars !

This is a fantastic property. The renovations done to the property are superb. Everything is brand new and the renovations are done to match the original craftsmanship in the house. This is a 4 or 5 story historic brownstone located on a historical street in the Washington Heights/Harlem area. The owner lives up upstairs and you are renting the two lower floors. It’s a great neighborhood, it’s very quite and the neighbors are very friendly. The owner takes great pride in the property and he is very responsive to any requests. We stayed for four nights and will return soon.
