This was the perfect base for our adventures exploring the Shenandoah River, Lake Shenandoah, Harper's Ferry, Jefferson Rock (best scenery ever--especially with fall colors), Shepherdstown, Charles Town, etc A beautiful area and a nice quiet place to go everywhere from.

Nothing like picture
Parking was not good. Sat outside and was part of the driveway. It had rained so when a car came in we had to put feet up so water wouldn't splash our legs. Driveway was horrible. It had picture of place on your website that wasn't even close to real picture. Water was not just a walk away. It was down the street in a private community. Couldn't see road because of weeds. Trash bin right in front by Driveway. Couldn't use oven It had not been cleaned inGod knows how long. Showed it to cleaning person. Also the cobwebs that were hanging. We were very disappointing. Would not recommend. Coffee pot took about 35 minutes to brew and only 2 burners worked on stove 👎👎👎

An Unsafe Place to Stay
First of all, it was hard to find, no markers on the road. It was cold inside. The baseboard heaters did not work in the living room. We turned the heaters up in the other rooms to try to get heat into the living room. This caused to bedrooms to be too hot to get a good nights sleep. My wife tripped on the rugs and fell and me have injured

Too Terrible to Stay
We arrived after a 12 hour drive, and when we pulled up we were hoping we had the wrong address. This is a mixed purpose dwelling where some persons are permanent residents. We walked up to the door and there was spider webbing, and several bees swarming the front door. The lock was very difficult to open, but after multiple attempts we get the key out of the lock box. Honestly, we a hard enough shove we probably could have entered the home, it is not a secure dwelling. We entered the musty place and immediately noticed the kitchen floor that had not appeared to have been cleaned. The window coverings were barely hung, and veiled in some cotton fabric that did not provide privacy in the least. There is no privacy and we, at the front door, could hear the neighbor above conversation and as they walked upon the floor the ceiling tiles above us moved. The home is cavernous, so there is little natural light and no widows in the bed and bath area. We entered the restroom to freshen up and found the sink was full of bugs, the room was not clean, the bathtub shower, did not appear clean. We looked into the bedrooms to find dead grasshoppers on the bed. My daughter was developing breathing issues, she refused to sleep in the bed with bugs on them, and she wanted to leave right away. We were in the home for about 10 minutes, and left. We attempted to contact the owner through VRBO but were unsuccessful. After we had to scramble to find somewhere to stay, on the holiday weekend, we found a place 40 miles away. After this ordeal VRBO and I attempted to reach out to the owner more than 5 times all together with no response. Minimally, after spending money for nothing, I attempted to get my cleaning deposit, back. I have received no correspondence, not so much as a note of apology. Overall, this week cost me a lot in lodging. For us, it was too terrible to staff and I feel that I was stiffed for nothing.

Some things I wish I knew before booking
Before I start my review, I would like to first say that I don’t take giving these ratings and comments lightly. I understand how important they are to the small business owners who are relying on good reviews to get more business, and I also understand how important they are to guests who are relying on the experience of others to inform them more accurately of what to expect. What we liked: The host was quickly responsive the couple of times I reached out to her. It’s by a lake where you can go swimming. The small charming decorative pieces in the unit that helped to brighten it up a bit. The location was pretty good and the neighbors were nice. There was easy parking. What I wish I would have known: The apps on the tv didn’t work because the internet was so slow. So we couldn’t watch tv. The cell reception was very spotty. We could only use our cells in the kitchen area. We have Verizon FYI. The pics make it look like it’s very bright. It’s not bright. The window in the kitchen is the only window in the whole place. The rest is like a cave. It was not very clean; particularly the bathroom. There was hair and dirt on the floor and baseboard heater, and the rugs looked like they had not been washed in ages. The kitchen was acceptable. We were only provided two towels and two washcloths. There was a strong smell of smoke in the unit. Not wood fire stove smoke, but cigarette smoke. Now that I am home I am having to washing everything we brought, even stuff we did not wear. The outdoor area with the fire pit was very unkempt. I had to scrub the chairs to get the dirt and leaves off, and had to do the same thing for the grill. Most importantly: THE WATER smelled terrible. Either sulfur or a problem with the septic system, I’m not sure which, but we wouldn’t even use it to brush our teeth. I refused to take a shower the whole time I was there because I couldn’t bear the smell. So we put up with my own smell instead of that. I think that’s it. I’m sorry to the owner for having to give this review, but I thinks it’s very important for people who are paying good money and using their precious vacation time to have a better understanding of what they are signing up for.

Good for the price.
I would give it five stars if they would do a good deep cleaning. Baseboards, vents, flooring, etc. were visibly dirty.

Nice stay but can be better
Large house and pretty. Nice location near a lake for swimming and fishing. But house is dark. No windows in bedroom and lighting is quite weak for reading. Biggest problem was It was hard to get hold of the host. We set messages several times but never got reply.

A bit misleading
Billed as a secluded cottage in the woods I was surprised to arrive at a multi-unit rural apartment complex. It seems like the building is a mix of residents and rentals. The residents seem less than happy about the influx of guests and the parking complications caused by it. The front of this bottom floor apartment overlooks a road immediately adjacent to another apartment with no private outdoor space, and another apartment’s balcony overlooking the front “porch” (a small table and chairs positioned between the door and the gravel driveway for the 6 apartments). Check in was very easy and the host had left a full bag of coffee grounds by the coffee maker, which was a very kind gesture. Despite there being a few more crickets in the apartment than desired, the stay was fine. I just wish the property description were a bit more transparent.

Great family getaway
This was a nice location to be able to explore West Virginia for the first time as a family! The condo has everything you need, comfy beds and is close to fun activities. We loved it! We had our 3 kids with us and they loved it too
