Overall the resort is beautiful and easy to navigate. The service everywhere except the pool area was great. The bar tenders at the pool where hit and miss and several days at 5 or 6 pm when they closed the bar (way too early) they would start throwing water from the pool onto the patio to clean whether you are sitting there or not. The food was disappointing , other than the steak house.

There was so much attention to detail. They had everything we needed. We did not need to leave the property. Lots of entertainment and activities for everyone. The staff was friendly and genuinely cared about the satisfaction of the guests. We had a great time and would definitely return or try other RIU properties.

Ocean was never cleaned and we all got sick from the smell and sargasso.I would not ever come back ,you supposed to advice people of ocean conditions because paying thousands of dollars to seat by the crowded pool it’s not right

The staff was very nice and the food was good. Jorge at the swim up bar makes great drinks! The rooms were a good size and our room was cleaned daily on a predictable schedule. We had one sink in our room that wouldn’t drain when we got there. We notified the front desk and it was fixed immediately. The a/c worked well and there was a ceiling fan to move air in the room too. The only small complaint was that there wasn’t a sports bar or any form of indoor entertainment like pool tables for nightlife. However, we had access to the RIU Tequila down the road which had a nice air conditioned sports bar.

The property was big and well kept. This is the 3rd Riu we have been too and we were overall less impressed than the others. The breakfast buffet was good but all the other restaurants food was veryyy mediocre. The drinks were weak and the wine is terrible. At another Riu property we had the option to pay extra for top shelf but not here. The staff was surprisingly not that friendly as most are when we travel to these resorts. Also, there is no gift shop/store on site except a small pharmacy in the basement. I thought that was unusual. I do love Rius but will not be back to the one in Riviera Maya.
