I’ve stayed at Ziva twice before, most recently in 2020, and we were so excited to return. This trip was especially meaningful because my boyfriend, now fiancé, planned his proposal here. He coordinated photography through the concierge in advance, but on the day we arrived, the photographer told him she and the entire team had been let go by new management. The resort never informed him. Had she not personally reached out, the proposal wouldn’t have happened. Thankfully, she went above and beyond to make it special despite the lack of communication.
As Expedia Gold members, we’re eligible for perks like a bottle of wine and a room upgrade if available. At check-in, we were told no upgrade was possible unless we downgraded to a dolphin-view room. The next day, after asking again, we were upgraded to club level after persisting.
I repeatedly asked staff to help make the proposal feel special with something in the room. We were told it would be done on our last full day, but nothing was arranged. At Bastille, we shared we were celebrating our engagement since they asked, yet there was no acknowledgment for us but the couples around us. Other rooms had banners and decorations, which made it more disappointing.
Food quality has declined; many dishes were overly salty, especially the Italian food truck. Bastille, Habaneros, Tradewinds, and room service were the highlights. The beach and security staff were exceptional. Overall, this trip did not meet the standard we once loved.
