A last-minute change of vacation destination led us to a wonderful time in Cape Charles staying in the right side of this duplex. The street was quiet and near the city park. The beach, shopping, and restaurants were a leisurely sidewalk stroll away. We heard little noise from the guests in the other duplex, and the bedrooms were positioned on the outside walls. Beds and furniture were comfortable; the kitchen had everything we needed to cook; the dishwasher was comically loud (run it at night--it's far from the bedrooms). There is a bathroom on both floors. The downstairs bathroom opens to the kitchen and has a sink in the hallway, so it was not as private nor convenient for showering as the upstairs bathroom near the bedrooms. The primary bedroom had fantastic natural light, but--as expected in duplexes--the rest of the rooms did not receive as much sunlight. We appreciated the off-street parking behind the rental, and we found plenty of chairs, umbrellas, toys, and a wagon to haul everything for beach adventures. A problem with the key code on arrival was resolved quickly via a phone call even though it was after hours.
We had a terrible time checking in. Me and my family waited for an hour in the car while I texted back and forth with someone about the key code not working on the back door. They finally sent me the code for the box that held a physical key for the door and we were able to check in. The house itself was fine but there were cobwebs on the walls inside and mold growing in the light fixtures upstairs. There were plenty of dishes and pots/pans/utensils for cooking. The bedrooms and beds were also fine. The bathrooms were very small but that is common for these older houses. We had an ant problem in the kitchen and they immediately flocked to our food stash. A neighbor two houses down allow their two large dogs to freely run through other yards and we kept finding their dogsâ poop next to our car and in our backyard. Overall, the stay was fine but weâve stayed in better locations with more charm than this house.
