Turn right out of the property and just 100 yards you are on Main Street, the centre of this beautiful Cumbrian town. Cockermouth is very popular with tourists and locals offering an abundance of independent speciality shops, quaint restaurants and coffee houses as well as a great selection of pubs and even a couple of microbreweries. Walk through the town and you can visit the birthplace of the famous writer William Wordsworth, 350 yards, and then cross the river where you can feed the ducks and let the kids play in the memorial gardens. Cycle hire is available nearby, and you can swim at the local leisure pool. Home to the famous Jenningâs Brewery, nestled beneath the castle walls, this picturesque, thriving market town sits at the junction of the River Cocker and the River Derwent on its journey to the sea. Being right on the border of the Lake District National Park, you can choose between the rugged scenery of lakes and mountains or the sandy beaches of the West Cumbrian coastline - you really have got the best of both worlds. Your nearest lake is Bassenthwaite which sits at the foot of the Skiddaw range, offering fantastic walks and views across the northern fells. Bassenthwaite is also home to The Lakes Distillery offering tasting tours only 5 miles away, and the Lake District Wildlife Park which is a great day out with the family only 6 miles away. The popular town of Keswick is 14 miles away and can be reach by car in about 20 minutes. For walkers and cycling enthusiasts youâll love Whinlatter Forest Park or continue down the valley to Buttermere for stunning panoramic scenery. Applegarth is ready and waiting for your next Lake District escape. Beach 10 miles. Shop 175 yards, pub 130 yards, restaurant 150 yards.

A lovely cosy cottage right in the centre of town, close to shops, pubs and restaurants. The cottage had everything we needed and the beds were so comfy. The people of Cockermouth were very welcoming and friendly, we will definitely come back and hopefully book Applegarth again.

myself and my wife and two dogs had an absolutely amazing stay in this beautiful cottage. The garden is stunning with a plentiful supply of apples, which we collected and passed onto the very friendly neighbours. The accommodation is top notch and really tastefully furnished with everything you'd ever need in the kitchen. We fell in love with Cockermouth on this holiday and loved exploring many of the other local towns and lakes within an easy drive. we particularly loved Allonby, Maryport and Buttermere.

We were impressed with the cottage- clean and well equipped and very central for the lovely town of Cockermouth. And warm enough . Nice touch to leave some logs. Our only issue was the lack of parking- we had a permit for local council car park which was in with the price. But it was not made clear how narrow the street was- instructions to park outside and let people pass doesnĂąâŹâąt work when other cars canĂąâŹâąt pass due to the narrowness of the street! Had to drive round town to unload and again to load the car. This put us off. Apart from that it was a lovely place.
