Secluded Cabin + Guest House with *Private Dock' at West End of Lake Taneycomo

A picturesque site at the 'Deep Water Chute' on Lake Taneycomo about a mile down from Table Rock Dam. Secluded across from 200 foot bluffs with massive oaks shading covered porches and decks. The primary residence cabin has 3br & 2baths, is fully appointed and provisioned, including Cable/WiFi. Adjacent to the main residence, connected by decks is a two room bungalow 'guest house' with separate mini=kitchen and full bath. The bungalow has just been redone from the floods in January 2016. Ample deck furniture including grill and 'porch swings are available. There is ample parking for as many cars as needed as well as a high double carport space for campers or motorhomes. From the deck, there are about ten steps to the large dock with a wide slip which will accommodate guest's 'trailered boat' or a boat rented from Trout Lodge Marina just 200 yards downstream. There is a public access boat-launch just 200 yards upstream from the residence. This quiet and beautiful setting is as good as it gets for a 'Trout Fishing Experience on famous Taneycomo. Of course just up the hill is The College of the Ozarks with their award winning upscale Keeter Center Restaurant. Just down the street across from Trout Lodge, is Gilberti's Italian and at the top of the hill you will find McDonalds, Country Mart Sonic, etc. The residence is about a mile down the hill from College of the Ozarks which is immediately at the Hollister exit. The 'Strip/76' exit is just 4 minutes away and The Landing' only 5 minutes away either by I-65 or the back way through downtown Hollister.

Our stay at this property was very disappointing and did not meet basic expectations for cleanliness or functionality.The home appeared to be poorly maintained and not thoroughly cleaned prior to our arrival. There was significant soap scum buildup on the shower door to the point that it was difficult to see through. The overall condition gave the impression that the property had not been properly cleaned in quite some time.There were also multiple maintenance issues that impacted our stay. The main house shower did not drain, making it unusable. The water throughout the home had a strong, unpleasant odor and felt oily. Neither of the TVs worked despite being advertised as set up with Roku. The heating and air conditioning system was also not functioning, which made the home uncomfortably warm.In addition, the guest house could not be locked because no key was provided, which raised safety concerns. The guest house shower door also leaked during use.Unfortunately, these issues significantly affected our experience. I would recommend that the property undergo a thorough cleaning and necessary repairs before being rented again.

The ac didn't work and neither did the TV. The wifi was very sketchy. The water had a bad rotten egg smell for the first day and a half. The outside area could use a good power washing. It maybe that we were one of the first to stay there since it was only March.Other than that it is a great place to stay. Good atmosphere, deck area and firepit with plenty of wood. Had a great time with family.

The cabin was clean, cozy, and had plenty of room for our large family. The back deck is the star of the show. The lake is beautiful, the kitchen had everything needed to make a huge Christmas dinner. We uad a great time.

The house was roach-infested. We checked in at 4:00 PM, checked out at 10:00 PM, and received our check-in instructions at 10:30 PM. The heat wasn't working, but that was the least of the problems. I watched a roach crawl across the silverware as I prepared dinner. I sprayed the kitchen with roach spray, and they kept coming out of the walls and cabinets. Called, texted, and messaged (through the VRBO app) the owner at 4:19 PM on the day of check-in, but did not hear from them until 10:30 PM with check-in instructions. VRBO has been working with us on a refund. The view is beautiful, but the roaches won!

Was disappointed No communication with manager as we tried 3 times no response. Internet did not work and was incorrect on the check in email. Not to mention it did not have any directions on entering the property. House was unlocked with no instructions. No instructions on how to get the TV working and that’s no easy task. The dock has no ropes and an unusual cross bar to dock your boat that makes it hard to dock any boat. There are water bugs all over the kitchen and the place really needs a full upgrade in maintenance. A fumigation for the bugs is a must. Sorry the place has great potential but needs a lot of work. Won’t be back.

The views are great and the outdoor spaces are amazing. The cabin has roaches, the shower doesn’t drain properly, the kitchen sink faucet is so loose that it feels like it’s going to fall off. You can tell this place used to be nice but it has gone downhill from its prime and doesn’t get the attention or care it should.

Cockroaches ruined the trip. Had to throw away all food we brought into house. We all stayed in the tiny guest house. Contacted host via text and via phone. Never once did I hear from someone over my concerns. The place is falling apart. The a.c. In the main house does not keep house cool. Extremely unsatisfied with the house.

The view is everything!

The beauty of this property is outdoors! There is a lot of outdoor seating options with the dock below and the view of the flowing River is spectacular! There is ample sleeping options with the added bungalow. However, the beds are not comfortable and the cabin needs some TLC. It was clean but just needs some repairs and updates.

Lake view is peaceful

The property has a huge back patio overlooking the lake, plenty of parking. Negatives: the owner does not respond to questions or provide checkin or checkout inforation. There are roaches in the main house. Property needs some fixing up.

Some good some bad

Let me start by mentioning the positives…. For the price the overall stay was fine. The location, the views and the outdoor deck space is all really fantastic. The cabin is not secluded by any means but the way the outdoor area in the back is set up with the buildings you most certainly have privacy. The house and guest house are very old so there is an odd musty smell especially towards the back bedrooms. The hot water does take some time to heat up which is no big deal at all. The shower in the guest house hot and cold is backwards so if you want hot water in the shower you have to turn to the cold setting which we didn’t figure out until the last day. The guest cabin has a vent to the P-trap that vents under the sink opposed to outside so on two of the days the guest cabin had a strong odor of sewage and the doors had to remain open to air out that smell. The guest house cable was not working although cable was working in the main cabin. Communication with the host was very poor. He did not respond to any questions nor did I receive check in instructions until last minute and I had to request those. The only timely response was when I requested at least 200 of my stay back due to the guest staying in the guest cabin having such a poor experience in which he was very defensive and disagreed stating I was just being a bad guest and trying to get some money back. The cabins were clean. Main cabin was great, guest cabin was quit unpleasant.

Beautiful location! One shower had only cold water and the other had standing water. Husband had to fix the drain so all of our party could use the one shower. Tried to contact property manager to see if there was a key or code to get in. No one answered or got back with me. Thankfully the back door was unlocked.Shattered glass on ground in bedroom by the broken mirror. Not really a picky person but unacceptable for the price paid.

Taneycomo vacation

I’ve never left a bad review of anything but feel obligated to warn future tenants. We arrived with no check in information. There were two cars in the driveway when we arrived with nobody around. All doors were unlocked upon arrival and when we walked in there were full trash cans, dirty dishes in the sink, every bed was dirty and unmade, dogfood on the floors, dog hair everywhere, and a heap of wet towels in the bathroom. The second smaller house on the property was also dirty and smelled so bad that we were unable to stay in it. It smelled like something(s) was dead in the wall or under the house. We attempted to reach out to the host with no answer on the provided number and no returned messages for hours. Not knowing what to do we did 7 loads of laundry so we could sleep that night. The host did message us later that they would comp us for a hotel room that night or cancel our reservation. We already had kids asleep at that point and that wasn't an option. Sometime during the first night, both cars were moved from the property. Aside from the general dirtiness of the whole property, there were several broken chairs, mirrors, door handles, and windows. The porch and walkway down to the dock has several broken or near broken boards that were unsafe to walk on. The setting of this property and the view of the river is beautiful and if kept up would be an incredible place to stay. Unfortunately, our experience with this house and host was not good.
