Our stay in Maui ended up being lovely, but the check-in process was an absolute nightmare. When we arrived, we were told that our booking was a scam and that there was no reservation under our name. After spending a long time on the phone with Expedia, they arranged an alternative property but insisted we would need to pay the original rate and they would cover the difference. We explained that the hotel had already charged us, but Expedia claimed the hotel shouldn’t have charged anything until check-in.
After nearly an hour of back and forth, the owner of the timeshare contacted the front desk directly and finally sorted everything out. It turned out the reservation had been placed under a completely different name, and our card had been charged seven days after the booking — not at check-in like Expedia believed.
Once we finally got into the room, everything changed. The unit was beautifully laid out, fully equipped, and had stunning ocean views. The stay itself was wonderful.
We’re giving it 3 stars, solely because of the stressful and confusing check-in fiasco. Without that, it easily would have been a 5-star experience.
