Check in was a bit haphazard. We showed up as scheduled but VRBO failed to notify the host. We were greeted with a pile of dirty linens on the kitchen table and two bags of trash on the floor by the main entrance. Our host quickly dispatched a cleaning crew who arrived as quickly as possible. In order to expedite the process, we washed the dirty linens.The next day, we had a gentleman enter unannounced through the back entrance while we were sitting in the tv/sitting room. After contacting our host, it turns out he was assigned to another cleaning crew who was unaware we were there. The third day, we were making breakfast in the kitchen when the circuit breaker for the microwave, toaster, and coffeemaker tripped. We notified the host who provided us with reset instructions four hours later. In the meantime, we moved the coffee maker and toaster to a working outlet. The kitchen was fully equipped. The tv/sitting room with tv, foosball table, and board games was nice. The road noise was as previous renters described--EXTREMELY LOUD in the tv/sitting room. Recommend removing the creepy pictures of Marilyn Manson and Sean "P Diddy" Combs. The stairs to the second floor are extremely narrow with an antique carpet runner. The bed rooms were well appointed. The main bed room floor is very uneven (we get it...it's a rustic farm house.) The bed is fairly uncomfortable with a huge "divot" in the middle from previous renters. Overall, a good stay.

We were not able to stay due to the condition of the property when we arrived. The house had not been cleaned after the prior renter. There were bags of trash in the kitchen, food on the counter and in the fridge, beds were stripped or tussled with used sheets, and towels were strewn about the bathroom. We arrived after 10:00 pm from out of town as we had a function to attend. We notified the owner immediately but did not hear back until the next morning. She apologized saying she had been sick and had forgotten she had another renter to get the house prepared for. Later in the morning, she communicated that she’d have the house cleaned by 2:00. As we had already had to find other accommodations, we asked for a refund as we would not be staying. It has been several days, and the owner has not responded nor has refunded anything.

I appreciate that the VRBO hostess provided a 13x9 dish for baking and a roaster pan upon request! The hostess was also gracious in provding a Christmas tree and decorations upon request. The VRBO was nicely appointed but located in a very noisy neighborhood right next to the main drive through town/extremely noisy, house is very drafty/chilly and one restroom on 2nd floor was a problem for members of our party that struggle with stairs. I don't feel like I had all this information at the time of payment/contract.

The house was very clean and the inside looked exactly like it was posted on the Vrbo site. It looked like it had been curated by an artist or a designer, and all of the furnishings were very comfortable. If we had had children staying with us the fenced in backyard would have been a wonderful play area. However, I can’t emphasize enough how loud the traffic is in the living room in the front bedroom we had to turn the TV up pretty loud to even be able to hear it between 4 and 9 PM and four and 9 AM. Fortunately, we slept in the back bedroom with the king bed and it was relatively quieter back there. The outside look like it needed a bit of cleaning- lots of spider webs on the lights and dead plants when we drove up and did not look like the picture on the website. We were a bit worried until we went inside. And the instructions we were sent were not up-to-date because they had changed the lock on the door and the Wi-Fi code had a capital letter when it shouldn’t have. I then had to text the owner and while they were somewhat pleasant, they also made me feel like I was not smart enough to get in the door. They even made the comment that someone had just stayed there before me and had not had any problem. However, I will say that the owner was prompt in responding to my text and helped us work through it.
This is a side photo of the house. I hope it is in the process of being painted and not in just disrepair. Only the side of the house we came in was painted fully.

This place is so beautiful and suited my needs perfectly. I came down to visit my children who live nearby and having a home with a nice backyard was perfect for celebrating a birthday with them. I did reach out to the host with a question prior to my arrival and never received an answer; the WiFi password given is written with an upper case letter which should be a lower case letter (took a few minutes to figure that out). Overall, great stay! I’d stay here again. It is on a very busy road and tends to be loud - not for those who need quiet for sleeping.

Charming historic home on noisy road

This home is very lovely & clean, with a spacious backyard, neat historic elements, spot on decor and quality mattresses & pillows. It might not be a good fit if you are unsteady on your feet or a light sleeper--the tub is a bit tricky to navigate (there is a non-slip mat in the closet) and there are stairs and thresholds to be mindful of. There is a traffic light a few feet from the front porch on a very busy thoroughfare with 18-wheelers passing by at all hours. We did utilize the home's speaker system to play white noise overnight. There were no written instructions in the home, so we had several questions. The owner was always quick to respond, albeit her tone seemed defensive. It is a very quick drive to Longwood and conveniently located.

Girls trip after a wedding in the area we wanted to visit longwood gardens. I actually messed up my reservation and contacted the owner in a panick and she was able to accommodate us. Lovely property, clearly a designer and contractor team had remodeled this historic home.

April 2025 Weekend for Family Wedding at Winterthur

Overall the property was charming. The original flooring and renovations are very nice. The host was extremely responsive via the app which was much appreciated.I wish that I’d given more thought to the reviews stating road noise had been a challenge. I did not think much of it having grown up on a main road and being a deep sleeper. This house is RIGHT next to the road (speed limit 45 mph) and at an intersection with a light. It’s NOISY and some vehicles shook the house. My husband (who is a very light sleeper) had to stay at another VRBO with family.

We were very pleased with the appearance of the property. The property was decorated very well and contained many amenities to make the visit more comfortable. We especially appreciated the quality of the bedding. We did experience a couple of minor glitches, but these were very quickly and effectively resolved by the owner.

Owner had very good communication and listing was accurate. However, road is very busy and loud. Recommend bringing sound machines for better sleep. Could use deeper and better cleaning and upkeep, but it's fair.

Great house

The house was wonderful, kitchen well equipped. The only issue we had was the downstairs of the house was very, very cold. No matter how high we turned the heat only the upstairs got warmer. That was the only issue we had, everything else was great.
