A Few Shortcomings
This place was unusual, no staff. There was quite a bit of dust around the edges of our room. My wife has dust allergies and had to take her medication here, in spite of not having needed it at other traditional Japanese accommodations. The floor under the mats is in desperate need of a cleaning.
We stayed here 4 nights. The mat in the bathroom had visible urine on it when we arrived and so the bathroom smelled like urine. The mat wasn't changed or cleaned during our stay. The towels were also not changed, which wasn't really a problem for us. The shower was very nice and there is a large bathtub that looked quite clean, though we didn't use it.
The futons were the thinnest we have ever slept on. I would say that it was marginally more comfortable than when I slept on a rattan mat on concrete.
The WiFi was also unusable in our room, but it seemed to be quite fast when standing at the front desk. There is no common area or seating in the house.
The neighbourhood was quiet and just a 15 minute walk to Kyoto station and a 5 minute walk to Kujo station.
