âThe Royal Gallery Loftâ in Historical Palace - downtown
"The Royal Gallery Loft"
If you are looking for a unique and authentic experience of history, arts, culture and literature, here is where you want to be. Itâs like to live in living museum with all the latest comforts of the XXI Century.
The apartment, just renovated and restored underlining an ancient and modern contrast, showcases an authentic 19th Century fresco on the vaulted ceilings and displays significant paintings by a distinguished 20th Century Neapolitan painter.
THE SPACE This historical apartment, still fully furnished with the family's ancient furniture, is located in the the historic center, in the most ancient area of the town - Vergini district - and is part of a 16th century palace, still belonging to the same princely family who built it.
In the 18th Century, this historical palace was the residence of the Great Saint Alfonso de Liguori (August 1st on the calendar), Doctor of the Church and Founder of the Congregation of the Very Holy Redemptor, and in that palace he started his apostolate.
This stunning and just renovated apartment (110 sqm - 1,200 sf) with high vaulted and frescoed ceilings is composed by one double-bedroom (queen-size bed), a huge living room with a comfortable sofa-bed (queen-size bed) and a round dining table for six, a fully furnished kitchen, a full size bathroom (shower), a harmonious terrace with patio, independent garden (200 sqm) where a centuries-old magnolia tree stands, and private entrance/foyer.
The apartment also benefits from private access to the ancient courtyard/garden of the familyâs historical palace (200 sqm - 2,300 sf), where a centuries-old magnolia tree stands (It is said that it was planted when the palace was built 500 years ago); which also consists of a dining area, a sunbathing area with deck chairs.
In the 18th Century, this specific apartment was the house of Saint Gerardo Maiella, disciple of the above mentioned Saint Alfonso Maria de Liguori, and more recently of the famous Neapolitan painter, Massimo, d'Orta, (former director of the Secret Cabinet of the National Archaeological Museum), whose paintings decorate the apartment.
GUEST ACCESS The entire apartment, terrace, patio and garden is at your exclusive disposal (no sharing).
YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD The Palace is in an area very well linked to everywhere (2 subways, 5 bus-lines and taxi rank) and offers many touristic attractions (Greek Hipogea of 4th century B.C.; Sacrarium of Fontanelle; Saint Gaudioso and Saint Gennaro's Catacombs; and many aristocratic palaces and important churches).
GETTING AROUND In five minutes walk, you can reach Naples' Cathedral, with the priceless Saint Gennaro's treasure; and the National Museum of Archeology, with the finest pieces of Pompei and the wonderful Farnese's Collection.
YOUR AVAILABILITY After your booking you will always be in contact with me, Francesco, via phone or email; while my mother, donna âPrincessâ Paola, will welcome you and check you in upon your arrival.
She will also give you tips of whatâs best to do and sightseeing around the city: our friends and guests are very enthusiast about it (please read reviews).
By appointment only, it's possible to visit the Prince's apartment, composed by several reception rooms, a huge ballroom with 18th century frescoes on the ceiling and a splendid 18th century chandelier, a very important library with 16th - 17th - 18th century books, in which rooms the princely family regularly organizes cultural events as concerts, theater exhibitions and debates.
On these occasions, and especially by night, some ghosts belonging to the family have appeared and seemed to enjoy very much to be in company⊠:-)
Furthermore, our Palace and its various apartments, including this one, have been a film set for important films and TV series, including, just to mention a few: - "M son of the century" by Joe Wright (2022) - "Mixed by Herry" by Sidney Sibilia (2022) - "Ripley - the series" by Steven Zaillian (2022) - "Nostalgia" by Mario Martone (2021) - "Sono solo fantasmi" by Christian de Sica (2021) - "I fratelli de Filippo" by Sergio Rubini (2020) - "Gomorrah - the series" by Stefano Sollima & Francesca Comencini (2020) - "The Jackal - the series" by Francesco Capaldo (2017)
The apartment is spacious and tastefully decorated. The AC heated the space surprisingly well! There are enough dishes in the kitchen, but most of the pots did not work on the induction stove. The host is friendly, helpful and well organized. The Sanita neighborhood is lively and amazing.
Appartamento suggestivo e con grandi spazi. Letto comodo e bagno funzionale. Un poâ difficile fare il caffĂš con moka a induzione.Posizione centralissima e molto comoda per girare a piedi il centro storico.Un poâ rumoroso la sera. Ma in complesso bella esperienza!
Have you ever imagined what it would be like to step back in history? Imagine staying in a 500 year old palace belonging to Italian Royalty that can trace their family tree back to Aristocrats from over 1000 years ago! We had the opportunity to stay in the family library of Princess Paolaâs ancestral home. We literally slept under beautiful ceiling frescos painted hundreds of years ago.The apartment was incredibly spacious, with modern amenities, kitchen appliances and more. The kitchen was very well stocked should you choose to cook a couple of meals. Centrally located in Naplesâ historic district, 10 minutes to the Metro Line 1 or 2 (Naples Urban core), we enjoyed staying at this VRBO. We were greeted by Francesco, who took the time to explain the neighbourhood amenities and shops and we were touched by the itinerary specifically made for us by Princess Paola to ensure we could see the highlights of Naples in the time we had. Of course, this is a 500 year old building and there are always Pros and Cons with any stay, but be rest assured, Francesco was exceptionally responsive warranting the reviews he has received. A great stay.
Probably one of the most interesting places I have stayed in as it is part of an older building. It is furnished with antiques from their family. The shower and air conditioner were good. There was a small kitchenette with a refrigerator. The location was within walking distance to two metro stops. Furthermore, the communication was excellent.
We loved the location and the physical environment. Easy and close fun restaurants especially a super good and friendly pizza spot attached to our building. Our host was unprepared for our visit and unfortunate taxi strike. The directions could have been specific. No hot water and no tea kettle. Lack of hot water very annoying. No clear directions for washerâŠsimple to number directions. He was supposed to show us the rest of the palace but never contacted us. Just too busy, I guess.
We stayed here for six nights and cannot recommend it enough. Itâs a wonderful place in a fascinating and vibrant part of Naples. We were very comfortable each night, and we loved the proximity to both the L1 and L2 stations. The pizza place below the apartment is excellent, as is the little restaurant just across the alleyway. If you need anything, thereâs an outdoor market within walking distance with tons of shops. The highlight for us was being able to sit on the balcony with a coffee or a snack and just watch the bustle of Rione SanitĂ below us. Itâs wonderful to have a little oasis of peace like that in a busy city. Francisco is a great host, and itâs clear this is a well cared for home with tons of history and love. Next time we come to Naples we would love to stay here. Donât hesitate; just book :)
We had some wonderful days in an awesome, very spacious appartment equipped with antic furniture and original paintings. The AC is not rearly nessecary due to the thick walls, that keep outside the summer heat and the noise from the lively street. The appartment is located in an old palace, paerts of which can be visited. The owner, Princess Paola and her son Francesco are extremly nice, lovely and helpful persons. If one day we will come back to Naples, we would always would try to stay again in this appartment.
Die sehr zentral gelegene Ferienwohnung hat mit den Deckenfresken und den Kunstwerken eine sehr schöne Ausstrahlung und ist zugleich mit allem Komfort ausgestattet.
Yes, Paula is a real princess who shares this palace with you. You are in the heart of old Napoli with everything nearby. We loved our stay and will be coming back
We had an amazing time at Paolaâs.
The photographs of the apartment do not do it justice.
Paola was wonderful and the location is fantastic for lots of historical locations.
Napoli is not for the faint hearted but we absolutely loved it. All human life is here and generally all at the same time.
Canât wait to return
This is a truly amazing place, richly decorated and comfortable, with a well-stocked kitchen, sumptuous furniture, and stellar artwork. While some might find the neighborhood a little rough, it was teeming with down to earth Neapolitan life, and we felt safe there. It's also 10 minutes' walk to the Archaeological museum, metro station and buses. As a bonus, the property is directly next to what may well be the world's greatest pizza restaurant, one that has earned a Michelin star year after year, and was written up in the New York Times, yet is modestly priced for take-away meals. (You can eat in, also.) Moreover, Paola, the host, is a kind and charming person who provided us with lists of places to see in Naples. (She speaks Italian, English, and French quite well, and, she says, German not so well.) She is fully appreciative of Naples and its history, someone who added greatly to our enjoyment of staying in her place. We'd definitely go back.
