The room was in a noisy location off of the breakfast area. The carpet was dirty and the bathroom was not clean or equipped with a hair dryer. The front desk gave me a hard time when asking for one. The front desk staff was also very rude and unhelpful with matters.

Small hotel-great staff

The rooms are small, like most everything in New York! There was trouble with the elevator when we were there. Fortunately we were only on the third floor! It was a good location for us as we were there for a wedding in Brooklyn. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was excellent!

Avoid if possible

Pros: Fairly convenient location.
Cons: Cleaner, quieter staff, make sure room is actually prepared for guests (i.e. closed windows, stocked with towels, etc.)
Location: Just a block from the main street with all the fun stuff in Park Slope. Lots of cute shops & restaurants, nice park, Sunday morning farmers market.
I was unexpectedly put in a room on the "1st" floor of this hotel, which is actually a level beneath the lobby and partially underground. When I entered the room, the window (which was one of those basement-style windows that starts 2/3 of the way up the wall at ground level and goes to the ceiling) was open directly to the parking lot. I had to climb on a table to be able to get enough leverage to close it so I could turn on the air conditioner. There were blackout curtains on the window but no sheers, which meant that to avoid anyone looking directly in from the parking lot I had to completely block out all light. While this was aggravating upon arrival, the worst part was when I tried to go to sleep later than night. Apparently this was the same level that the hotel's laundry facilities are on, and there were hotel staff talking and shouting loudly to each other in the hallway most of the night. I overheard another guest complain about it to the concierge, but it didn't abate at all. The room could have been cleaner, though it wasn't bad enough to really squick me out. The box of tissues was completely mangled, and there was no washcloth provided with the towels.

Close to subway station

Hotel was OK, but the room was very small ... two beds and not much room left over for luggage and such. But we made out OK, were in the city most of the time anyway. Staff was helpful and breakfast was good each morning. Only a block away from the nearest subway station (R line if I recall correctly), so pretty easy access into the city.

Very clean and COOL during the hot NY summer!

My husband and I stayed here for a week last summer and will be staying again next month for our vacation. Very clean, quiet and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Every employee we questioned had an accurate and easy to follow answer to any of our dining, sight seeing and subway questions. It's hard to stay cool in the city during the summer and the quiet, powerful air conditioning was very much appreciated. Some of our friends who traveled with us chose a more expensive hotel and complained about loud AC that couldn't keep up with the terrible, humid, hot weather that week. Our bed and pillows were super comfortable and clean. It is within walking distance of a few subway stations (the Atlantic Ave Mall terminal is not too far away and has connections to practically anywhere you want to go in the city.) Several car services are close by so transportation is a breeze from the location. The night life is amazing! It's a very trendy, safe neighborhood with lots to do and lots of friendly people to meet. I recommend the High Dive Bar for drinks and Tomato & Basil for some amazing 24 hour NY pizza and cannoli. Both are just a few blocks from the hotel. Holiday Inn Express Brooklyn will definitely be our home away from home from now on when we travel to NYC!
