Booked a deluxe double room but when we checked in they refused to acknowledge the reservation was for this room type and put is in a standard room instead. Called Travelocity to sort this out (front desk at Y was unhelpful) and they tried to call the Y booking office for over two hours and no one answered, so we paid for a deluxe room but had to stay in one that was half the size. Next day when management came back and we pointed this out, they didn't even so much as apologize.

Cheap, right in the heart of Manhattan.

Pros: Staff, cleanliness, price, access to subway.
Location: In the heart of Manhattan. Subway can get you anywhere else.
My daughter and I were visiting NYU. We just needed a room with two beds and access to a bathroom. The YMCA was exactly what we needed. The facility is old, but well maintained. The main floor and entry way have been updated. The date of the building was evident in the upper bathrooms (avocado green tiles) and the closet in the bedroom, but everything we needed was there. There is a grab and go food store with limited options, but has what you need for an express breakfast or lunch (albeit pricey). My daughter would have preferred a private bathroom, but she will be going to college, so she needs to get used to it! The staff was amazing. There is 24 hr security, so we didn’t have to worry about being back by a certain time. We spent our time downtown at the university, but the YMCA is right by Rockefeller Center, Times Square, etc. It is an easy walk to a subway station. This was exactly what we needed and we were on a low budget. I could not have been more satisfied.

Clean and Comfortable

Cons: There is no need to improve it! It is great!
Location: Lincoln Center and Central Park are right there!
My room was like a college dorm room. It was fully carpeted. It had a/c, and plenty of heat so that you had your choice of climates. It also had a color TV. There was a ceiling light as well as a pole lamp; so that you could shut the light without getting out of bed. My bed, including the blankets and pillow, was very comfy. The bathrooms were clean, private, and convenient. As a guest, you could use the health facilities, such as the pool, which I enjoyed. There is a little snack bar downstairs, which was very convenient. The location was excellent. You were a very close to Central Park as well as from Lincoln Center. It was a great stay. Thank you, West Side Y!

Good accommodation in an excellent location

Pros: The location was exceptionally good.
Cons: Can't think of anything that could be better.
Location: Just minutes away from Central Park and Columbus Circle.
The West Side YMCA was a pleasant surprise. I had lived in YMCAs before and was sure of what to expect, but I found it cleaner, more secure, and better maintained than usual. The room was sound proof, clean, well lit, well ventilated (some one had to come and fix the AC plug before it could work), and the daily housekeeping was impeccable. The storage facility to house luggage during the day was very convenient.

Clean, quiet room. Good price. Great location.

Pros: Location. Location. Location. Clean, quiet and dependable.
Cons: An extra blanket in the rooms would be nice.
Location: Only steps from Central Park and Lincoln Center. Just a short walk to 59th and Columbus Circle subway Station. Plenty of restaurants.
I always stay at the Y when I visit New York City for sporting and cultural events. They always have vacancies, the staff are nice and helpful, rooms clean and quiet, fantastic location near Central Park and Lincoln Center and all for around a hundred bucks. Can't beat it.

A week at West Side YMCA

Pros: Its location
Cons: Longer deli hours
Location: The location is great with Central Park right there. The Lincoln Center Theater is just down the block and across the street. The subway is near by.
This was my second time to stay here and I knew what to expect. I would recommend it to anyone needing to finding a lower price place too stay, who can deal with a college dormitory situation. .The lack of an in room sink is a negative and the rooms are all with shared baths in the hall. But for someone needing a clean place to stay I can recommend it. The location is great with Central Park a half block to the east and Lincoln Center a little further to the west. This Y has a small deli with sandwiches, drinks and breakfast selections. There is a dining room across the hall. For me it closes to early, so I would usually purchase something somewhere else at night. The location is also close to Columbus Circle with access to the subway.

Cheap

Felt like what I'd imagine a minimum security prison quarters would be like.

Good location

Felt very safe in location in new York city. Overall quality was average for price of hotel. Would not recommend using other facilities provided. World recommend if not staying more than a few days. Bathroom conditions very poor for both men and women.
