The Mid-Town Loft
Newly finished 1,575 square foot apartment (sleeps 6). Two bedrooms. The master has a queen bed. The second bedroom has a bunk with a full size and 2- twins. Full furnished kitchen and full sized washer/dryer. Stocked coffee & tea bar. Access to the unit is done remotely with a 4-digit code the you create. Smart TV with youtube TV, WiFi included. 10+ nearby restaurants.
I do not recommend using this VRBO. This rental unit is the second floor of a twoâstory building. We reserved the rental unit for a twoânight stay (Friday/Saturday/Sunday). The rental unit was new and spacious. But the location is in a blighted section of Rockford - lots of abandoned/boarded-up buildings on the street. The outside door has a secure bolt that is opened by a combination, but the door appears to have been attempted to be opened without authorization and looks damaged. There is a separate door on the second floor that opens via a combination lock directly into the unit. After I made my reservation the owner scheduled an event on the first floor venue of the same building (that I guess he owns?) for Saturday night (5:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.) The owner gave us a 50 gift card in compensation for the annoyance of the party. However, the music was so loud the floor was vibrating and there were many people hanging around outside the building. I suppose they were there for the party but my spouse and I did not feel safe. I also worried about parking my car there overnight. We left Saturday night at 9:00 p.m. because we did not feel safe staying there another night and relocated to a local hotel. I do not recommend using this VRBO.
The unit is beautiful and well maintained. It was the location that was scary. So many street walkers, fights, and police/ambulance sirens right outside our window. Neither of us could sleep. We literally had a person yelling at the top of his lungs from 3- 4 AM. It was super disappointing. I didnât feel safe.
Do not recommend for the following reasons:
-Was given vague and misleading parking instructions that led to my rental car being towed. Had to pay $283 out of pocket without any resolution from the owner or vrbo. There is a miscommunication between the host and the owner of the parking on which spots belong to who.
-Host didnât send check in instructions until two hours after the reservation started. Lack of communication and ability to reach the host was a huge issue. Recommend only considering to book in the future if check in instructions are put on the listing and his phone number is on the listing (had to sit through an hour on the vrbo customer line to get his number).
-Inside of the apartment was great but the surrounding area is sketch. Access to the property was difficult with the door hardly working.
I contacted property owner two hours before check in to get check in information. He replied back 30 mins later and canceled my reservation and said that he had a leak. Literally canceled without even two hours of notice. Do not book this!!! He ruined my plans with little to no regard!!
The apartment was super spacious and nicely appointed. Very clean. Very quiet. The bed was super comfortable. It was a nice place to stay during our Rockford adventure. I wouldn't think twice about rebooking this location if we end up in Rockford again.
I rated as I did because of one glaring omission in the description of this location. It is above an "event venue" and as such incredibly loud and noisy. We were not informed of this and the noise was pretty loud. We were out all day as we had a funeral to attend and stayed away as late as we could. The music and loud voices were fairly tolerable knowing it was to end at 10 pm; it ended shortly after, but when the loud popping noises started it was quite nerve-wracking. We surmised the noises were fire crackers and not gun shots as the police did not come.
Overall the condo was fabulous! So spacious and clean. The only thing I would caution is the hot/ cold water is reversed in the shower. Couldn't understand why the water wouldn't get warm, until I tried the opposite.
The owner and his agents were terrific! Very prompt and helpful. It's too bad the area isn't great. Our grandparents lived on 4th Ave when we were kids and we have fond memories of that. I sincerely hope the area can be revitalized as it has such great history.
This is a very nice spacious condo. I experienced several issues that would prevent me from renting this place again. On multiple occasions, I had to contact the owner to complain about loud DJ music blasting from the apartment below. It was so loud that I had to go to Starbucks to take a conference call on the second occurrence. The owner apologized after I returned to the condo after going to Starbucks. It turns out that he was involved in the "mic and music check". There were other issues with this condo. The area has many shaky-looking street people and women walking the street. I walked to a local restaurant and was stopped twice by panhandlers. The area is also very noisy, with lots of loud cars and motorcycles parked across the street, the condo is close to the train tracks and there is a fire station close by and sirens were constantly an issue. When adding the super slow internet connection and mediocre TV service (Samsung TV Plus?) the overall experience was a huge disappointment. I took a chance on a new VRBO listing, I will never do that again.
Property was as described, only thing I had a problem with was you couldnât make your own code to enter unit. Other than that everything else was adequate. Host was very accommodating.
