I booked six nights, but at short notice, the hotel told me that it is not yet open. I was then transferred to the Mercure Hotel in Chinatown. This was another deception.
Mama is a cheapskate.
Beyond the quirky and frankly insufferable marketing copy plastered across the hotel declaring how mama loves you and mama likes your smile (what kind of self help book with a bed is this anyway?!), the experience was a masterclass in hospitality no gos.
1. the hotel proudly plasters its PR with promises of a beautiful swimming pool. At arrival I am told that pool wonât be ready till end of Feb. Nowhere was this mentioned online and no discount was offered to make up for the key feature of why I even booked it.
2. Aircon did not work first night. Window couldnât be opened, turning the room into a suffocating tiny sauna. In the morning, Iâm told in perfect lawyer approved manual speak that I should have informed the hotel in the night (sorry but no, I donât want somebody coming into my room at 4am) and they will fix it for my second night. No discount for first night or other fix offered. Mama likes to see you suffer.
3. Lack of amenities in room - all in one body & hair wash and conditioner in cheap muji bottles adorned with makeshift mama sticker. No coffee or tea. I thought that the barrister downstairs is the solution in an elegant way to offer better coffee instead of capsules. Wrong. Coffee was not included and instead price at a punchy 7.5 sgd per flat white. Mama is counting her pennies.
4. Booked with breakfast. Made no price difference but locked me in. Donât do it! Breakfast was good but limited menu where you could only order one item.
