Oliphant is a community rich in history and cultural significance, located on the shores of Lake Huron along the Bruce Peninsula. The area lies within the lands covered by Treaty 72, signed on October 13, 1854, by First Nations living on what was then known as the Saugeen Peninsula and representatives of the Crown. This treaty encompasses most of what is now called the Bruce Peninsula and is sometimes referred to as the Bruce Peninsula Treaty. The land continues to hold deep historical and cultural meaning today.
