Worst experience ever at a hotel due to awful treatment by hotel staff
I arrived at hotel with my wife and infant son late on Friday evening, past midnight after a 6 hour drive. We were very tired and just wanted to get to bed. Upon check in at the desk I was informed by the front desk clerk that the hotel's underground parking garage was full and consequently there was no room to park my vehicle. The clerk directed me to use the public underground parking garage in the building next door. The clerk specifically stated that the public parking garage was cheaper than the hotel daily parking rate. She went on to say that the public garage cost $6.00 per night on weekends. Following checkin I drove my car to the nearby public parking lot, paid the $6.00 parking fee at the self administered kiosk, put the parking stub on the dashboard of my car to display proof of payment, locked the car, returned to the hotel and went to bed. Next morning at approximately 9:00 am I returned to my car to find a $42.00 parking ticket on my windshield levied by the parking authority. Upon examination I discovered that the $6.00 fee only covered parking until 5:00 am the following morning. In order to receiveing a parking ticket, I was supposed to pay an extra fee at the time of parking. Although this point was stated in small print on signage at the parking payment kiosk, the hotel attendant made no mention of this fact. I went back to the hotel to report this matter to the hotel reception staff and I was referred to the front desk manage. To add insult to injury, the manager's reaction was very disconcerting to say the least,. Everything I said was met with a response to the effect that the hotel asumes no responsibility and there would be no financial offset on my hotel bill. Even when I recommended that the staff include the additional information concerning extra fees whenever they recommended use of the public parking lot in future, his comments were still focussed on how the hotel assumed no responsibility for any extra financial charge. This made both my wife and I somewhat upset and had the effect of ruining what should otherwise have been a pleasant weekend in Toronto sightseeing and visiting family. I strongly recommend to readers, if good service from hotel staff is at all important to you, avoid the Marriott Downtown Eaton Centre Hotel in Toronto.
