The location of the hotel is ideal and it’s great to have a swimming pool so close to town.
However, the rooms especially the bathroom were outdated and not clean. The photos online are misleading. The overall property was generally outdated and worn, clearly in need of some love.
The staff were generally pleasant, but they seemed uninterested and it was off putting. Additionally, when I asked for a normal beer ( as this place is also a restaurant) they said they didn’t have any and would only be able to offer it the next day. Breakfast is only served until 9am which is astonishing as most hotels/homestays serve breakfast until 10am. Finally, it was the only hotel I have stayed in, in Bali that doesn’t offer refillable water.
Overall, my impression was poor from the staff, service & quality. For the price charged, you can get much better rooms and amenities in other hotels/home stays nearby.
I will not be returning.
Relaxing, attentive staff, basic but good breakfast, great massages. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and loved the balcony and afternoon delivery of a fresh pot of tea.
I really, really liked it here. Beautiful and cozy, a 2 minute walk from the heart of Ubud and yet still quiet and peaceful, and everyone there was kind and real. It just felt homey. Also: best banancakes I've ever had. 10 out of 10

Beautiful architecture in this hotel and our room, but very basic amenities. Make sure you bring drinking water because none is provided and toiletries. We were haggled immeadiately upon arrival (around 9 pm after a long travel day) for next day tours. Over charged for airport pickup, but easy transfer. Definitely not the cleanest room (huge cockroaches inhabit the shower) and the bed was very uncomfortable. Minimal privacy due to shear curtains on large windows opening onto the main courtyard. Breakfast was okay, but made better by the very nice woman who prepared it. Recommend homemade yougurt and fruit.
everyone should wish they could stay @ hotel okawati. my experience was privileged beyond belief. i honestly would only stay @ okawati in ubud. i attempted two other hotels and arrived humbly back @ okawati only to be greeted with embracing arms. good luck finding something as special as the family @ okawati if you are looking for a quaint boutique non touristy resort . suksma okawati suksma
There was absolutely no issue with the hotel, close to everything, nice staff, clean and beautiful. But the hotel taxi driver to the airport is completely different story. Horrible!!!! We asked him to take the toll road to be there faster and he didn’t, to why... he answered it costs money!!! Well I know it costs $$, that’s why I was paying you 400K. We got stuck in a traffic with school kids, we barely made it. I was sobbing in a car worried to death we will miss our flight. I would not recommend the hotel driver at all. Sorry:-(
Room 1B is amazing! Tranquil, beautiful. The balcony is like another room and everywhere one looks there is decoration and ornament and intricate detail. It really gave me the “Bali-feel”. There is neither a telephone nor a television to interrupt the serene atmosphere. The front desk had some problems with the reservation related issues but the problem was satisfactorily resolved.
The deluxe hotel was not what was on the website and I was charged $90 a night when I chose a $70 a night room. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to others.
Lovely setting. .. pool and surroundings are in beautiful quiet gardens. The first bed we had i think was past its best... terrible back for 2 days after sleeping. mentioned to staff and they said we could upgrade to better room which we did and beds were better. The spa itself isn't working... hasn't for a long time apparently. That was a bit disappointing as we'd booked looking forward to that in mind as was advertised. They do massage upstairs each day which was great. There was a bit of a mix up with the free breakfast where 1 day it didn't turn up. The restaurant on site is a bit bizarre...they offer a menu and food up to your rooms but don't plan on having dinner there. ..it closes at 7pm!!! They're running it on balinese meal times... not westerner travelling needs as you'd think a hotel might be inclined to do. All the staff are very nice and accommodating. If you want a good location for staying in Ubud that's quiet but central then this would be perfect.
The hotel owned and run by the delightful Mrs OkaWati was one of the first to be established in Ubud. The lady herself is a member of the Ubud social elite (some kind of local princess) and known by everyone in the town. Her hotel is a beautiful oasis in the bustle of the busy town. It is set back from the noise and bustle of the Monkey Forest Road and occupies a kind of enchanted garden. Around the pool there are several buildings housing her 20 guest rooms. They are all designed according to traditional Balinese principles and have exquisite stonework and wooden carvings. If you want to experience the beauty and the true culture of Bali (as opposed to all the ghastly tourist stuff in the coastal resorts) then this is really THE place to stay. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. We have stayed there four times already (for a total of several weeks if you add them together).
Okawati hotel is a small charming hotel in a great location. Okawati is a wonderful gracious woman who welcomes you like family. Can't go wrong here.
